Latest issue - Failure - No connection
Anyone had this message flash up on their infocentre? Any idea what it means?
I'm working to the theory that I might have a low battery, so unless anyone knows any better, I'm about to nip out for a charger.

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
I have to admit, this happened for the first time the day before I took it to Mangoletsi. It was the guy there who suggested a low battery. They were supposed to check it out, but with forgetting to do the service and having to rush it through on Monday, I don't suppose they did.

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
I've done a search... and it turns out it was me who complained about it last time.
No further theories were put forward, so off I go for a battery charger. Is it right that I have to remove the negative connection to the car before attaching the charger to the battery?

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
if it's the battery, then a 'recharge' will only be a short term solution. cos the battery is most likely too old (and therefore lead plates too corroded) to hold charge properly.
so IF the battery's at fault, you should buy a new one.
Abyss - here in australia - had a fault with his midi fuse inside the fuse assembly atop the POS battery terminal. the navy blue one was at fault, presumably partially blown. replacing this fixed his electrical woes, BUT they were different to yours. he had repeated VDC/ABS errors. but something to consider.

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
Well put it on charge at about 7, and went out at 10 and it was fully charged. Seems like it wasn't low then. Will have to wait and see if the fault reoccurs.
Anyone got any other theories as to what the message means? It's not one of the ones mentioned in the handbook.

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
Yes it is me to have the similar problem. But I think mine was a bit different. Mine was showing "Fail to connent, go to dealer" on infocenter plus ABS,ASR and Handbrake lights were all on the dash. It was caused by a doggy fuse (as per Shiny said). It is a 60A fuse. Everything was back to normal after fuse replaced.

Not different at all Abyss - exactly the same in every detail!
Could you tell me which fuse and where it is please?

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
Oops. Sorry, had missed the second part of Shiny's post.
Thank you both, I will have a good look and see what I can find there.
I didn't even consider it could be a fuse, with it being intermittent.

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
The fuse should only cost you 5 pounds max i guess. But it is a special fuse so better get it from dealer. Good luck

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
here's a link to a pic showing the fuse in question (photo taken for other purpose). it is the blue 'MIDI fuse'.

Interesting. It's yellow in my car.
Oh, and Abyss is dead right, just tried two motor factors, and no luck

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
so long as the rating (ampere) is appropriate for the car (refer to owner's manual or keep same as existing), colour isn't an issue obviously. might be a brand difference.
wafer MIDI fuses are used in various applications, aside from our cars. this includes car audio fusing; if you happen to have a specialist car audio store nearby, you could try them. though MIDI are less common than others in car audio (ie: compared with glass 5AG/AGU, or larger wafer ANL).

Re: Latest issue - Failure - No connection
Don't you love it when you go to an olde worlde shop, which consists of some old guy sitting surrounded by products, and only he knows where everything is - and he blows the glitzy new guys out of the water? Especially because he's usually cheap as chips.
Tried one last place, of the type mentioned above. He didn't quite get my description, but on having a good look proclaimed that it was just an old fashioned strip fuse. Went and dug about in an unlabelled drawer amongst many other unlabelled drawers, and produced a small strip of metal, with little connectors at each end and a 60A sign scored into it. Cost me 50p.
Fitted it at home, and had no issues on the way back to work.
Thanks for the help guys.
