Water Pump Question

Can anyone tell me where the water pump is located on the GTA?

I’m getting quotes to carry out my cam belt and tensioner change which is looking at about £600 and im trying to determine whether I should get the water pump changed at the same time if its the plastic impellor type.

The reason I ask is that my past experience with water pumps involved pumps driven off the cam belt and failure meant the belt got thrown and major damage followed but ive been told that the GTAs water pump is completely separate and would add another £300 onto the cost.

If it is indeed completely separate I could get it changed at a later date a split the cost up at bit

Re: Water Pump Question

I would get it changed at the same time - it should not cost much more in terms of labour.

Re: Water Pump Question

The waterpump is driven by the aux belt, BUT you can't get the pump out without first removing the cambelt.

So replacing the waterpump means a full cambelt job.

In no way would it add an additional £300 to the job though.

Re: Water Pump Question

Get it done and get the metal impeller version from the GTV fitted. Should be no more than £100 on top of the belts etc.
