HEADS UP...Water Pump GT...
Well only had the bella back not even a week and it strikes again!!
Yes its back in the dealer !!
Noticed that a coupkle of times that the water level had dropped so topped it up. Then started it up with the bonnet open on friday to hear a grinding type noise.
Suspected Water pump, dealer comfirmed today that it was. They got the car all this week gain.
23k and needs a new water pump....
out of all my alfa`s this is the most expensive purchase to date with cars and is proving to be the most troublesum.
The woorying thing is the wife is really getting hacked of with it and I feel that the next purchase will be Mercedes, Bmw, Subrau or even Evo iof we get any futher problems.
I,m off kayaking.

Re: HEADS UP...Water Pump GT...
sorry to hear your trouble.
thats low mileage for the water pump to go. I thought they went upwards up 50-60k miles, from what i have read on these forums.
make sure you get them to fit the metal impeller type from the 3.0 GTV on replacement.

Re: HEADS UP...Water Pump GT...
They have already order the new one. What is the one on the GTV then, is it not the same as the GT? Cheers Bodgit

Thats really poor mate! As above get the metal one fitted and make sure they change belts and tensioners too, they have to come off, you may end up quids in.

Re: HEADS UP...Water Pump GT...
is the car out of warranty, or going to be fixed under warranty? (still doesn't take away the inconvenience and sour taste)
if under warranty, they will replace the part with an original spec - plastic impeller. though i'm sure you could negotiate to pay any extra for a metal one.

Re: HEADS UP...Water Pump GT...
Cars under warranty, but they have already ordered the part so I`ll just have to stick with the plastic one.

Bizarrely, only the 3.0V6 GTV got a metal pump, all the other V6, even the 3.0 in 166 and 3.2 in GTV, got a plastic pump.
They are exactly the same, it is just the material of the impeller that is different.

Does that mean that any GT, be it 3.2 or 2.0, or 147 or 156 uses the same water pump?

The metal or plastic impellor issue is only for V6 waterpumps. Other engines (Twinspark, JTS, JTD) used different pumps.

Re: HEADS UP...Water Pump GT...
Got a call from the dealer today saying problem with a bolt that has seized, and they now have to take the whole engine out to get at this bolt!!
My Alfa has a spirit of its own. Maybe I should get a private plate for it....maybe starting with 666.lol

Re: HEADS UP...Water Pump GT...
Yes SR, not having much luck with the GT. Really thinking of a change if anything else goes tits up with it.So frigging annoying taking it 30 miles away to to dealer every time something goes wrong.

Yes it should be.
Plus it should cover any belts+tensioners+etc that need to be removed (and therefore replaced) to be able to change the pump.

Re: HEADS UP...Water Pump GT...
Never understood why they use plastiv impellors on cars. The same thing happens to BMW's too. They last even shorter than Alfa's absolutely useless things.

I had a similar warranty issue on an 05 plated, 8k mile 156 2.0 JTS.
There was a noise from the belt/tensioner, and they charged me for the balancer belt/tensioner (think that was £130 ish), straight onto Alfa HQ and a cheque was sent out to cover the dealers stupidity (Simonstone Bristol), bunch of monkeys...turns out the new belt/tensioner they fitted was out a tooth, so was promptly sorted by another dealer.
