147 gta tyre pressure

Just wondering what you keep your tyre pressures at? Mine where set down to 27 psi when I bought it. Recently raised it up and have noticed less grip (obviously). Thinking 27 is probably a bit too low though. What you got yours set to?

Unless I've read the manual wrong, it states the tyre pressures should be at 36psi which seems very high (especially in winter)

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

27psi is far too low.

I don't have any figures for a 147, but 2.2bar (32psi) was the absolute minimum cold pressure for a 156.

Never run below the minimum pressure.

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

reduced load (2 persons)
Front: 2.5 bar (36 psi)
Rear: 2.3 bar (33 psi)

full load
2.8 bar (41 psi)
2.6 bar (38 psi)

all pressures above cold
add 0.3 bar if hot, recheck when cold
add 0.2 bar in winter

They work well for me (on Potenzas)

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

I run mine between the two figures above - 2.7 bar (39psi) for the front and 2.5 bar (36 psi) for the back.

I have found this to be the best compromise for ride quality and grip.

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

Also best to get a good tyre pressure gauge iv'e had one for the last 3yrs, i cannot believe the difference with petrol stations and supermarket tyre inflators on there forecourt's.

I was browsing through a car mag either autoexpress or autocar the other day in a supermarket, and there is an artical about tyre inflators at garages and how bad they are out''
i just think they dont get calibrated enough, the gauge there using is the one i've got, it's worth a look.

Absolutely.
Never rely on the garage forecourt air-line gauges.
Partly because they will be way out, but also because you will have had to drive there, so you will not be checking the pressures cold.

Buy a good pressure gauge and a foot pump.
Also, try not to do it when the sun has been shining on one side of the car, otherwise you will end up with uneven pressures on each side.

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

I assume it varies depending on whether you've got the 18's with 235/35/18's (as standard) or 225/40/18s (which most people fit) or the 17" wheels

All the above quoted are for 17's, yes?

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

Yes.
39psi seems very high to me. I was looking to put mine back down to 33 at the front and 31 at the rear. Its not gripping as well at 36. At 39, I dont see how it can have any grip at all. Plus wont you wear it out the middle of your tyres?

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

Yup - for 17s with Michelin PS2s.

Give it a bash - I get better grip at 39 than at 36psi, and better comfort too. I don't have any issues with my tyres wearing out either.

It's not that high a pressure - stock pressure for an RS6 is 42psi.

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

Handbook says same pressures for both 17" wheel and 18" with 35 profile tyres.

That would be under inflated, so not a good idea at all...

The minimum pressures are set for a reason, don't go below that pressure.

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

ok so by the same token, raising them to 39 is equally unwise?

39psi is fine, because that isn't above the max cold pressure.

eg, on a std 1999 156 the minimum cold pressure was 2.2 bar for low loads up to 2.5 bar for full loads. There was also an additional 0.3bar required for constant high speed use, which took the max cold pressure to 2.8 bar (41psi).

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

39 front and 36 rear for me..
I find the car handles best with these pressures and get better wear rate.

Re: 147 gta tyre pressure

thanks guys.
Well I'll stick with 36 at the front for the moment and then experiment with 39. Suppose it differs for different makes of tyres too.
