Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
So it's not aqua planing?
Maybe you should have the suspension bushes checked out. Thats the usual problem.

Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
Check all tyre pressure's are correct, also get a four wheel alignment check and get all the suspension bushes checked.
As for the Bridgestone's, not the best tyre in the wet but i'm sure they wouldn't affect the car to such a point that it is all over the road.
Also check for play in ball joint's and wheel bearing's.

Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
Wet or Dry I find the Toyo Proxes T1-r has an awesome level of grip.
I've had Michelin Pilot Sports, Pirelli's of various sorts, Goodyear Eagle F1, Yoko's and the Toyo's are the best in my humble opinion. Expensive though...

Are your tyres directional, ie should be put on the rim only one way? Check they have been fitted properly, just in case

Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
The Q2 doesn't like aquaplaning in my experience, even if just briefly over a puddle. Get a more pronounced tug of the wheel going over standing water on one side, both sides and it will transfer drive from one wheel to the other searching for grip. Definitely unsettling when traveling at around the speed limit (~110 kph). In conditions where there is a chance of aquaplaning I'm forced to go slower than I would without it that's for sure. From another thread...

Best way to combat it is check the tyre pressures and take it easy as suggested.

Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
Solution...put one of these on the back of it and it will push the rear end down nicely

Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
Has it been lowered? Lowering the car can cause a tendency towards oversteer, my back-end is the same on wet roundabouts, it wants to overtake the front!!

You mentioned before you bought the 147 GTA of Monstro's wife, so this is the supercharged GTA we are talking about. Right?

This would be my first thoughts too - the rear of the car shouldnt be loose even in the wet unless you are pushing it and this clearly sounds like you are getting this problem under normal driving conditions.

Good point Selespeed. AlfaSA, it does sound like its aquaplanning to me, which is often the case in high-powered, relatively low weight cars with wide wheels. Indeed, I remember reading a report by a motoring journalist who noted that in very heavy rain along the M4 a Citroen 2CV could go faster than his Lotus Espirit.
Perhaps its a case that the 3.7 engine unsettles the car in the wet. After all, 147 GTa's are renown for their lairy handling at the best of times.

Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
The 147Q2 Sport I drove seemed to hang its' tail out on lift off oversteer. Quite lairy, even in the dry

Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
To me this sounds more like bushes first, alignment and then pressures - mine was going this way before the drop links and ARB were replaced. I then had the Q2 added and personally I think the wet handling has been vastly improved....
So, I'm sure the bushes are at fault - because the GTA with Q2 is so sure footed, as said before... "it feels like it's got 4 wheel drive"

Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
I've got Q2 and 280lbs of torque, for the past 15k change of direction aquaplaning hasn't been an issue but recently I have I've noticed more torque steer and the car is not as stable through big bits of standing water ( I do this frequently enough to notice the chnage due to poor roads I travel on, any heavy rain I get puddles) I assume its bush/suspension wear which as I haven't replaced as single component in 60,000 miles doesn't suprise me, time for an overhaul.

Re: 147 GTa all over the place in wet weather
Spoke to Dawie this morning and he reckons it all to do with the q2.on you tube theyve got this video of q2 driving in wet weather and both wheels turn equally .my proble is hitting puddles of water .the strange thing two is now also that the vdc light doesnt come on .i myself must correct the car through steering in opposite direction ,not braking and lifting of the acc.Its summer in South africa with a lot of rain and its very **** to drive the car especially with our **** road quality.
