147 Gta???

Hello. I am looking into buying a 147 GTA and was wondering if anyone either knows of a good one for under £12000 or could give me some advice on what to look out for on them?
There seems to be quite a few on Autotrader and Pistonhaeds all with a simular spec, but very different prices...
Any help would be great.

Re: 147 Gta???

best to do a search but things like service history, brake type (330mm upgrade) interiors and equipment are the areas to look at.

Re: 147 Gta???

I keep hearing a lot about the 330mm brake upgrade. What is so bad with the earlier brakes and which cars have the upgrade? If i were to buy a GTA without the upgrade how much would it cost to get the brakes up to scratch?

I think the main problem is warped discs through overheating. However, I've driven a 305MM 156 GTA for a year with no problems. If you want to get serious (like track days), the 305mm brakes aren't up to it and apparently will fade pretty quick. If you drive in a very spirited manner and brake heavily in normal driving you might see some lack of stopping power but they've always been fine for me (but I don't drive like a maniac and no track days planned). The brake upgrade is expensive so I'm planning to get Performance Friction pads fitted with braided hoses and upgraded fluid, which will be fine for anything I could ever throw at it.

Best thing would be to check the receipts and see if there are a lot of replacement discs - might indicate they keep getting warped.

Cheers,

Nigel

Re: 147 Gta???

A lot of 2003 cars have already had the 330mm upgrade under warranty, but if the car was built from 2004 onwards they should already have the larger brakes fitted from new.

On your test drive listen for a knocking noise from the front, this usually indicates the antiroll bar bushes have gone.

Good luck

Thats the one i was talking about cul, she looks mint

Edit.

Regarding the 305mm brakes.

Mine has them fitted and ive had no problems at all and the brakes that were fitted to the car when i bought her have just been replaced after 22,000 miles of use.

Cosmos blue... Same colour as mine Very rare colour and looks ace in the sun.
2003 build so probably 305's, also doesnt state its has had the 330 upgrade.

Very good value though and decent mileage. Well worth a look i think

Re: 147 Gta???

Thanks Cul, i will certainly have a look at it before parting with any cash. the only thing that worries me is that its been lowered. I would prefer a standard car, more for my own piece of mind than anything else. But i guess a 2 grand saving could get me some quite nice brakes etc.

It doesnt look lowered to me
I think they probably mean its lower than the standard 147.

Just looking at the pics again and its definately is not lowered, unless its been lowered after the pics

Cheap car, i'd give them a call

Cosmos blue changes colour in the sun, so heres a pic.

Make sure the clutch is good on any car you're looking at.
