What do you think....2002 Brilliant blue 156 SW - complete (bare metal respray)plus new OEM front wings , new pistons, liners and rings, mains cambelt, years MOT , powder coated wheels, refurbed calipers, 115,000 miles. - Would it sell for £10k or am I deluding myself that having just done all that I will not recover just the cost let alone its pre refurb value.

Thanks, I have time I have not driven it since June If I get it back and drive it again I will be smitten , the imminent arrival of a Giulia QV is making me take a decision I know I won't drive it after the QV arrives, the day at Millbrook convinced me of that.

The floor pan is sound, Neil at NJS assures me of that otherwise I would not have proceeded with a respray, the main areas were three wheel arches has surface rust, the tailgate had rusted beneath the rear wiper, I had scraped the front nearside spoiler (parking it in my own garage !) some slight rust at the top of the screen and stonechips on the front end (something to do with driving it across Europe a few times at high speed probably). When they took the plastic bits off the rear of the wings they found that where they attach to the body had rotted...the rest was fine so I decided to have them replaced with OEM new ones, so I will also have the old ones which could be repaired. I have attached photos from the body shop taken a couple of weeks ago.

I had the exact same dilemma as you at the end I decided to let it go. It was and still is an absolutely mint car and I had spent a fortune in correctly upgrading and maintaining it but at the end it came down to that I was not prepared to pay an extra 130GBP per month in garage cost (yes, it costs that much here in Switzerland) and also I wanted to dramatically reduce the faffing about time in the garage in weekends with GTA maintenance and upgrades and instead spend the time driving the Giulia around. As a very good friend and colleague said to me, all someone has owned carry some memories but you cannot afford a car museum to keep them all. Also having an extra 9grand to add on to the Giulia deposit meant that it helped the situation with monthly payments significantly.
Fortunately I managed to sell at my asking price very easily, so I would expect that if your car is as good as it sounds you should be able to easily get rid of it for good money.
On the other hand if you have space and spare cash and most importantly time to keep driving and enjoying the gTA too I would say keep it.

Given the level of interest in 1 hour - the answer must be yes!

Re the QV - I'm keen to try one, when supply is available, so will not be one of the early adopters. I want to try one, and can only then decide if I'll keep the GTA as well. I have also recently replaced the family bus, and went for something new to market, and have had a fair amount of niggles. I've not got the time and patience to do the same with the QV as I think it will be worse, given it's totally new in every respect (engine, gearbox and platform)!

Why spend a lot of money painting your GTA when you have already ordered your Giulia?
Seems a bit odd.

Or an act of real love for the GTA, meaning you shouldn't sell.
And: I don't think good GTA's (rustfree, resprayed, etc) will depreciate anymore. So keeping her is, besides the belt every 3 yr, from financial point of view not a disaster!

Have you had any issues with the condition of your window scrapers?

Mine were pretty knackered so the bodyshop recommended replacing them. New Rears were obtained no problem but the fronts are no longer available so after many phone calls trying to find if anyone had a new set in stock anywhere we have had to go for a used set which may be better than my originals but are not perfect.

Cheers

I will let you know when I get it back, not sure if they were able to be replaced. Would look excellent with new ones.

So , after a lengthy engine rebuild, full body (including two brand new OEM front wings) glass out respray I pick up the car. It looks fantastic, wheels, calipers body all like new. Drive it home, no more that 3,000 revs after leaving the motorway (40 miles) gearbox does not sound good. Park car , engine sweet . Two days later drive it back to NJS...await verdict. a tooth had come adrift and wreaked havoc inside...so on top of an engine rebuild , full body respray it will also have a completely rebuilt gearbox and new clutch. Now the whole bill comes to more than I paid for it in 2006 at 30,000 miles. Awesome a virtually new GTA .
