That's a very reasonable price too - not sure if it would completely prevent stone chipping though looking at the photo of the area it covers?

Do you reckon it'd be worth fitting then? I've just gotten my side skirts resprayed because of stone chipping!

Re: Preventing stone chips on a GTA??

I actually did this myself using products from Armourfend.

JWWyatt had most of his front end done which is quite pricey but I got the lasercut side skrt pieces for £11 from Armourfend and fitted them myself. (about £20 with vat, fitting kit and postage).

The paint protection film is made by 3M but there are many companies who cut it to fit different models. The film has an adhesive back and you clean down the paintwork with meths or similar. You then spray an adhesion solution onto the body work before applying the film and working out the air bubbles. You also have to stretch the film to fit the curves of the skirting.

There is a bit of knack to it and I could definitely do it better second time around. You cannot jet wash or car wash you car but I have done since as long as you don't jet wash on the seams at full tilt you should be fine.

If you have fresh paint and want to protect the skirt, go for it. It is much easier to fit in warm weather though, I had to use a blow heater to heat the car and the film to get enough give to work it into place. Too much heat though and your working time with the film goes from 2 mins to seconds and once it sets it sets!

I'd say so yes.... I've been looking at GTA's this week. Need to keep it spotless if I get one. Baring in mind that the Brera/159 comes with these covers from new now...

That's very interesting. I didn't know that.

Re: Preventing stone chips on a GTA??

Hmm, interested, but every example I've seen of this type of thing is too obvious for my liking. Custom ones might work - if anyone uses them pls let us know what they are like.

Cheers,

Nigel

If you are close you can see the edges but you have to look closely. You would not notice at a glance and less so if the car is a little dirty.

The way I looked at it is this - what looks better, a nearly invisible piece of clear plastic or 500 white stone chips?

Well, I found a great "quick paintshop" near me that charges about 75 quid a side to redo the sill. So at the moment, having that done every 2-3 years is preferable to a bit of plastic that looks like a bit of plastic. But I'm open to persuasion.....

Cheers,

Nigel
