156GTA exhaust heat problem

Hi, I have a question on the exhaust heat with 3.2 V6 back muffler. Has anyone noticed anyone sign of burnt mark inside the boot on the chassis next to spare tyre? There should be some black insulation material stuck on the chassis which mine looks like it has been burnt. I still remember when I was searching for used 156GTA 2 years ago. I discovered that issue in the first car and I thought that car must have issue. However it was the same case with 2nd and 3rd car I looked at then I thought that must be common problem. I was sort of live with it since then.

Recently Oz weather has gone to 40c mark and that area has become an issue. The whole boot is so hot and I when touched that area I can feel heat is quite serious (not burning but close). If I put some red wine in the boot it will be gone for sure. I can’t use the boot to carry anything if it will be damaged by heat. With the insulation material, I can actually peel off the paper like material on top.

I then checked underneath the car and realised the clearance between back muffler and heat shield is like 2cm ( I can barely put my finger in between). Looks like the heat shield doesn’t do the job properly or simply not enough. What I want to do now is to get some Aluminium insulation material that I put it in between back muffler and heat shield.

I’m just wondering anyone have any idea what product to get? Also can I ask if you have any burning mark in your car?

p.s. I inspect mate’s 147GTA and it seems ok but still has little burnt mark. It make sense that 147 has more clearance in between also the mesh on the bumper is helping to0.

I will post some photo of mine tonight to show you guys.

No sign of melted insulation in my boot but the ambient temp up here at the moment is about 3 deg C which helps.

Wow that does look like its been seriously hot!

I would look for a product similar to this to aid heat shielding:

rallynuts.com motorsport : Cool It Aluminised Heat Barrier motor sports & karting

Re: 156GTA exhaust heat problem

The boot in my 156 got very hot too when I had the Novitec rear box and heat wrapped exhaust manifold especially in the summer with 45degC outside temps.

I ended up insulating the boot floor but I think you'd be better to fit insulation under the car between the heat deflector if you can so that the heat stays out of the car.

Re: 156GTA exhaust heat problem

will try to do it myself over the weekend. I've got some Aluminium tape and hopefully it is enough to block the heat.
