New Giulietta, small issues.

Hi all,

Picked up my Red Lusso 170 JTDM on Saturday. Absolutely in love with it. I took so long looking into 5 door hatchbacks, and I can honestly say that if you want a 5 door diesel with a decent sized engine, the giulietta is not only the logical choice, but also the best looking.

There's a small issue with it that some of you might've seen before. Whenever I start the car, a message is displayed along with a beep that says "Alarm Unavailable". I've read that this can happen in certain situations, like you tried to lock it again, or someone tried to break in etc, but this happens to me every single time. It's never not appeared.

So I took it in today and they couldn't find a fault so I have to take it back friday and leave it with them so they can figure it out. I don't giving it back so soon, and I know they'll stick me in a Punto or something.

Real pain in the a***, but hey ho, that always happens with new cars I suppose.

G - Lusso 170 JTDM

Why don't you ask them if they can provide a CC which is a G?

Not sure you should really scratch it down to just being one of those things with a new car - its not like the G is brand new (although I appreciate that yours is).

Yeah I see what you're saying. I do think though that you are lucky if you never have to return the car for warranty work, regardless of who makes it. I had to take my Vauxhall Corsa in about 6 times in the first year to get little bits sorted.
I'm not too fussed as long as it isn't too frequent.

I might get lucky and have another G to drive in the meantime, but I've been stung before. Had to drive away from the vauxhall garage in a Daewoo Matiz on more than one occasion.

Are you using the key in the door keyhole to unlock the doors?

Does yours not have remote central locking?

I just press the lock button on my key & the car is locked & alarm is on. (double press gives dead locks too)
Press the unlock button and the unlocked & alarm is off.
I don't know how you can set the alarm off unless you lock it with the remote then unlock it with the key in the door.

Yep its remote locking but was in the car reading the handbook and playing to be fair when it went off

In normal use it works as you said

It's from County Motor Works in Chelmsford.

All I'm doing is getting out, shutting the door and pressing the lock button once (presumably enabling the alarm), I didn't know you could not set the alarm.

Then to get back in, one press of unlock, then when I start it up I get the Alarm Unavailable error message.

Hmmm...some models don't come with the alarm but pretty sure Lusso's do as does my Lusso.

Reading the handbook it says.....

With the doors and bonnet closed and the ignition key either turned
to STOP or removed, direct the key with the remote control towards
the car, then press and release Á button. Except specific
markets, the system produces a visual and acoustic signal and
enables door locking.
A self-diagnostic stage precedes the turning on of the alarm: In case
of faults the system will generate a further acoustic and/or visual
signal using the LED on the dashboard.
If after the alarm is switched on, a second acoustic signal is emitted
and/or the LED on the dashboard flashes, wait about 4 seconds
and switch off the alarm by pressing Ë button, check that the
doors, bonnet and boot are closed correctly and then reactivate the
system by pressing Á button.
If the alarm produces an acoustic signal even when the doors, bonnet
and boot are correctly closed, a fault has occurred in system
operation: in this case, go to Alfa Romeo Authorized Services.

Do you get the acoustic signal?

No, no second acoustic signal, just the standard locking beep.

The garage said it could be something wrong with the siren, so they are going to try that on friday.

Good point dereks, my dealer has said a lot of warnings and issues will be down to low battery power. If the boot light or somthing is draining power you may get issues, as they are sensitive to drop in battery levels.

The dealer took it in and said the siren was faulty, which is causing the error, so they've had to order a part. Everything else is working just fine.
