Ridiculous MPG!

A week ago I had topped up the tank for the 5th time and covered 850miles.
Last week my MPG dropped from 29MPG urban to combined to now at 26MPG!!

I spent £72 on a full tank and after covering only 150 miles, I have just over half a tank left.

I am driving in Normal mode and hardly put my foot on the accelerator pedal (we feel guilty when we are tempted due to such poor economy).

I booked an appointment to see with a AR service centre in London to see it but they messed up with my courtesy car even after 2 phone calls and 1 email of confirmation my courtesy car would be ready for me today.

Although I had to take my car away without it being seen, the dealer advised I was not the first who had brought the car in for the MPG issue and that it seems its 1 out of every 2 that has the issue and even one customer is chasing customer relations for a full refund.

The dealer was quite confident that they would not be able to do anything as it seems most Giulietta's has this issue and unless I complained to the head office or a recall was made, then only could they really do something.

I cannot afford to run my G at such poor economy.
Do you all think I should go straight to head office or let the dealers still have a look even they seemed pretty confident they would not be able to do anything...?

It should be better than 29 - 26 for a 1.4MA, That's QV territory.

I assume you are not driving everywhere in manual mode in 3rd.

Is it possible that you are driving it too hard? I mean - accelerating all the time?

He says "I am driving in Normal mode and hardly put my fut on the accelerator pedal" so i don't think that is the problem.

Maybe you should try in D mode then. I for example have higher consumption in N mode than in D mode due to lower torque and I need to have higher revs to drive normally.

2012 Giulietta GT Q2

Official combined consumption is 5.8L/100km for 1.4 MA, hard to imagine that it can be achieved now that I am at 9.8!!

Hang on, are you saying you've only put 120 miles on it in TOTAL since you bought it (when it was new)? Only your original post said something about filling it for the fifth time and you'd done 850 miles? If it's the former, then give it time. If it's the latter, then there might be an issue, but it's still pretty early days.

Sorry it was meant to say 1020miles.

Initially I was getting 30MPG but that involved 300miles of extra urban .
Can it really improve from 36MPG to around 40MPG.
As mentioned the AR dealer said it's a very common case.

He had a lady's G left for testing which was a year old, covered over 13000miles and was averaging 27MPG.

Its hard to believe there can be such differences among drivers with the same engine. I was test driving this engine (TCT), had extra urban and relatively calm route and at the end some highway - the consumption was 35 mpg. I do believe city would give around 30.

From what I've read most are getting 30+ from combined but are still happy even though that 20 or so less than the official figures.

The car was bought on the principal of very good economy (especially on a 1.4) so that I would't be hit that hard with the petrol but at the moment I am ending up paying more than my ex Audi 1.8T

Exactly....paul and myself proved that, he can barely get above 30mpg in a QV, however he drives... where i can get 32 in my daily commute, and even more on a motorway haul.

Some people have got a heavy foot some havent?! Not to say i dont boot (have fun) it, but really whats the point on a school run.!!

Giulietta 1.4MA, 1.1 Saxo

I have a manual 1.4MA and am getting about 35mpg. I do not use it much around town (use the Saxo for that) so mainly trips of 45 miles plus open road with a few miles urban at each end
