GQV Service Schedule
G'day, I'm in Australia and took my GQV in for its first serviced today at 10,000Km. They changed the oil filter, seal sump plug and oil, and it set me back A$391 which I thought was pretty rich for what they did. They scheduled me in for another service at 20,000Km.
I questioned this as the service book indicates every 35,000Km for Giulietta 1750 Turbo Petrol. The service guy insisted that the my G requires a service every 10,000Km. That doesn't sound right to me and would be interested to know what others experience is, and also any advice.
Cheers

As a minor detail, I got the impression that today's oil changes involved a vacuuming out of the oil from the top negating the need for a sump plug . I do think draining the sump sounds better for the engine.

ARJReis,
I am in Aus too and it certainly does sound different to my advice.
Obviously I am not privy to the buying conditions applicable to your purchase.
Hope you can sort it to your advantage.
Regards ,

I'm buying the car through a work leasing plan without any special conditions. Essentially the Alfa dealership sees and treats the purchase and support arrangement like a private sale.

Hummmmm
How long time wise was service interval ?? I would get very worried if is was any longer than 12 months. Frankly these extended service intervals make me nervous. The service book should have a time frame as well as mileage on the service schedule. My 156 had an official service interval of 20,000 kms but I changed my oil every 6 months or about 7,500 kms - 170,000 kms later and the 156 motor is tight as ever and has never needed to be topped up between services
No surprise with the dealers invoice

Interesting, I'm not too sure what the official service interval is, I didn't notice this in the service book but the service sticker on the windscreen says the next service is due in 12 months or 20000km, ie. in 10000km's time.

The service schedule is written in the manual, haven't you read it? Scheduled services are every 35,000km or 2 years (whichever comes sooner), and it is also recommended that you change the oil and filter every 12 months. Remember that a service is NOT JUST oil and filter.

The dealer is a burglar. If an Alfa mechanic took 30 minutes to do an oil and filter change he would be really dragging his heels. As others have mentioned, the service schedule recommends an oil change after 12 months if car does less than 7,000kms per year (or something like that). However, if this chap is insisting on full servicing every 20,000 instead of every 35,000 he is not credible. You have to bear in mind that the "time-dependent" part of the servicing (months before kilometres) is purely because of the chemical degradation of the engine oil (which is accelerated by stop-start city driving).
I would tend to get the "oil/filter change only" intermediate services performed by someone other than the stealership. I personally would buy genuine filter, sump plug/washer, even genuine Selenia oil and get someone on a much lower hourly rate to change the oil and stamp the book. You have to minimise the fleecing and milking which is rife in this industry.

Hi,
Just had mine done in NSW. They recommend 15,000 km's or 12 months. The book says 17,00km for us in AUS I think but I think 15000 sounds about right to me to look after the car. Personally I think the intervals in the UK Europe are too high (the last thing you want is sludge in a turbo) but you can't really tell without oil analysis.
I paid just over $500 but they did a tyre rotation and alignment as well (it was a little out). At the moment I am happy with the price as they are really looking after the car with warranty issues and I get to test drive a new Alfa every time for free.
cheers,
Anthony

McCarroll's alfa. Just to confuse things, despite them say ing to me 15000km's and 12 months, the sticker they put on after the first 15,000km service is saying 6 months, 7,500kms. I will give them a call and see what is up.

Don't you just love it !!!!
When they sell you the car they brag about how service is cheap as because of the extended service interval .......then as soon as they get you in the service bay it is always 6 monthly, no questions
Unfortunately most dealers are like this - then again frequent oil changes are generally a good thing
I have yet to decide whether or not to take my car to the dealers or my Alfa indi
