Help Cheapest way to improve the sound of a QV?

Sorry guys im not being giulietta-ist here, just asking about the car i own...

Whats the cheapest way to improve the engine note on a QV?

I didnt really want to go round changing the whole exhaust system, but tbh im not really up with tuning and the lark..

Cheers for any advice

This is a G forum and your question is a G question...

And it is something I would be interested in finding out too. It is a bit on the quiet side.

Wait till about 14,000 km's. The noise in D improves quite a bit.

I have driven a QV with those miles and it is still very quiet for a performance car.

Would a change in filter help?

There's always the squeal of the tyres trying to beat a Suzuki Swift off from the light's in D to keep you happy! God I find that trigger throttle hard to moderate in D. So bad I embarrassed myself next to a cop car just trying to get a quick take off without drama. He followed me for a bit but thought better of it.

Seriously though, I would love a better exhaust note as well, even though I am enjoying the new note after a few k's. This is the one thing (only) that makes me regret not getting a GT 3.2.

From what I have read from previous posts you would have to make a pretty radical change to the exhaust to get any reasonable improvement and this isn't cheap.
I am just learning to enjoy it's new gruffer note. Strongly suggest you wait a while and see if you are still not disappointed. Otherwise buy a mini...

TBH, the QV could do with a decent exhaust ( I'm seriously considering the Ragazzon option myself) and an induction kit as it is just toooo subdued for it's own good. Although, I am told it sounds louder from behind.

Having said that and has already been mentioned, wait till it's got about 5k under it's belt, then you'll notice the turbo waste gate whistling away

agt@

it doesnt bother me as much as i want to basically rebuild the car... but if theres something i can do without spending some serious dollar, i would.

Ive only done 1000miles, ive had since 31 march been in dealer most of that.. crap aint it may just wait for the sound to mature.

Cheap-induction, so change the filter but leave it in the airbox...
Also change the downpipe.

This guy here changed the middle damper with the ragazzon pipe w/o the damper, that gives it a bit more, i just don´t know if its a more or less direct fit or if it needs some fiddling, that must be the cheapest way to improve the sound: Alfa Giulietta Qaudrifoglio verde TBi 1750 Tubo dritto centrale RAGAZZON HD - YouTube

Yes, it will not give you an exhaust note but rather an intake note...which is also very nice!

Search for Vulgi and Master Paul's threads they've both put in filters...or just order the BMC filter for the GQV 1750TBi from any performance shop, it fits straight into your airbox...

someone in the UK pls assist DANQV2 with this..its fairly easy mate.

I wasn't being serious but I have to say that Mini have the idea of a fun exhaust note from a small capacity turbo nailed.

A work colleague and fellow car enthusiast and I have not only shared many of the same alfas in the past but we are still searching for the ultimate fun hot hatch and have been debating what constitutes a really fun modern car. He has a JCW mini now and me the QV. We are yet to go out for a drive yet in each others cars to compare but he has already been in a QV and I have driven a cooper s which I have to say was a lot of fun, especially with the exhaust splats on the over run.

His previous car was an audi s3 which he only had for 6 months and I had a chance to drive. Lovely car but we both agreed it was ultimately boring despite the acceleration times and failed the fun criteria.

Back on topic though, I think you need to enjoy the QV for it's own manic qualities and enjoy the subtle exhaust note which gets better over time. I am not convinced it is the right engine to pursue the exhaust note in this regard. Would love to be proved wrong of course..

I had a JCW on a 53 plate and aside from the QV it was the best car I have owned. An amazing drive just became impractical. The QV is crying for a mn exhaust upgrade. Pay the premium for a good one and you won't be disappointed. I am certainly not!!

Dan, just be careful changing anything mechanical. It WILL jeopradise your Factory Warranty. Ask your Alfa dealer first. Manufacturers will walk when it comes to honouring warranty if you have messed with the car.

I asked my dealer about a aftermarket exhaust, and was told in no uncertain terms if I did so, that ANY issue or fault arising from engine/induction would not be covered.

Better to be safe than sorry I guess.
