Just wanted to share my experiences from today - driving the G QV at a local race track. Not a competition though, just for fun
And fun it was! I've done a few laps with a MkV GTi Golf (similar power/weight) here and compared to that car, the Giulietta is way better. In fact I would say it's even better than my previous MkIV R32 Golf. Reason being, the Giulietta turns in very beautifully and the front wheel drive works amazingly well. Only in few tight corners would the "q2 diff" function kick in, and even in those cases the car was able to put the power down very well.
Of course asking the front wheels to both turn the car and at the same time deliver 340nm of torque is a bit much, they were heating a lot and sometimes the car felt like understeering slightly. But it really didn't bother nearly as much as I thought it would.. (I am usually a big fan of rear wheel drive)
Suspension of the QV felt also pretty much spot on, of course it is very soft for track use but car felt flat going through corners and as mentioned, turn in was very good. Brakes are excellent and I didn't experience any fade at all - and on this track fade is usually a problem. Even more impressive since the electric q2 thing + stability control was heating them up as well. The balance is set up in such way that the rear tires are not really doing much, in fact trying to steer the car with the throttle (even lifting off completely in a corner to see what happens..) didn't really have much effect. I think a stiffer rear sway bar might work nicely if one was available.
Seat sucks big time and now my legs are hurting from bracing against the door and center console. Standard P Zero Rosso tires worked fine, some visible wear but I think they held up better than some other brands. Hazards come on basically every time one brakes for a corner and it is somewhat amusing...
Summary: the QV is very good car to drive fast, right out of the box. No mods necessary to have a great time. I didn't really get this car to drive it on the track a lot, but after this day I feel like going again
