Alfa Romeo Guilietta

New Alfa Person

Good Morning

My mate finally convinced me to join the Alfa revolution so I bought a brand new Guilietta Veloce 1.4 TB Multi-air and love it

Went for the car in red with 18inch alloys, the red calipers too and so far am really happy with it

Picking up the official Alfa mats next week too

I quite like the look of the dual exhaust thing at the back too... if people can advise on whether this is worthwhile and any other tweaks would be much appreciated

I have a couple of questions (being new an all) if people can help?

People using an iphone - has anyone managed to fit a holder to the air vents as in the past the ones I have had have never seemed to fit?

Also I have noticed that my car seems to encourage me to get into 5th gear at about 32 mph which noticably improves the MPG although I do take slight offence that my car is attempting to teach me to drive 12 years after I passed my test

Hello and welcome Juurell!

Can't help on the iPhone mount I'm afraid as I leave mine clipped on my belt and access the contacts list etc via the tom-tom etc.

I've noticed that the shift change indicator is pretty keen! Mine also nags me to change to 5th when I'm trickling along at 30 (+/- 1 or 2 mph) in town traffic.....the silly thing! I'm sure that it probably has a marginal effect on mpg, but I really don't like the thought of dragging along at that speed in 5th which would be c1000rpm, especially on a new tight engine.

I foresee I will have to educate my wife about this when she starts driving the QV! Although she's had a licence for 20+ years she hasn't driven for about 10 but wants to start again. She's taken some refresher lessons which is good...and thinking about it I suspect that she won't be spending time looking at weird flashing up/down arrows on the dash! (Still, she learnt to drive and passed he test in Italy, so driving an Alfa should be in her blood! )

Ooops.....drifted off topic there a bit. Sorry!

She did have a drive round an empty car park in my Brera before she started her refresher lessons....ok, she stayed in 1st gear and found the brakes a bit, erm, effective

I don't think she'll find the QV too much of a problem, I hope. Normal mode is pretty gentle - easy steering, nothing too aggressive in the throttle movement, and the brakes are a bit more progressive than the Brera. (In fact, all in all, less aggressive that the B.)

I won't sneak it into Dynamic for her though! I'm still getting used to that in some ways tbh. The change in overall performance is fine - not that much different than my 3.0 GTV - but I find starting from stationary "fun" as I only have to think throttle and 3000rm come up and I need the anti-whiplash head restraint to control the acceleration!

I had wondered whether Adverse Weather might be an even better setting for her, but I;m not sure as the handbook implies the steering is the same as in Dynamic. (Haven't tried AW setting yet....)

Cheers people

Another question I have is I currently have my iphone plugged in to play music but this seems to keep the battery just about steady... as my iphine literally dies twice a day I am going to plug it into the cigarette lighter and use a separate usb pen drive full of music kept in the glove box

Has anyone done this?

I'm thinking i'll get a 32gig drive and then apparently there is a way of creating playlists directly onto the drive so its les fiddly than working through the drives... apparently there is some software you can use to to do this???

Also can I just say I am still smiling at the insane drop in my car insurance costs from my previous 1.9 cdti Astra Twintop... my new car is worth over 5 times as much as its noticeably faster and it came in at £550 cheaper.... thanks Alfa/Jesus????

I keep an iPod in the glovebox for my music, and I took a chance and just loaded up my library from iTunes as it was, album art 'n' all, and so far it seems to be working fine. (OK, only had the car for a week, and am spending most of my time listening to the engine at the moment so it might all go horribly wrong at some point!)

Have a search through some of he threads in the ICE lounge, as I'm sure I've seen something about using Windows media player/something to put music on an USB drive....

I access the music library via the tom-tom so I can't really say how it works just using the standard ICE unit.

Cheers buddy... I have an 8gig one somewhere... I'll have a try with that first rather than buy a 32gig that might not be worth it

I do have an old ipod nano too which I might just plug into it and leave in the glovebox
