Hill holder on TCT with stop&start
So, picked up a demo TCT today to cruise around in for a few days, just to get up to speed on everything before mine arrives next month.
I know about the hill holder and have experienced it before on a manual version when visiting the UK last year. However, when waiting at the lights today on a slight incline (don't know how steep, but more than 5% I should think), stop&start engaged turning the engine off. When the lights changed I lifted my foot off the brake and expected the hill holder to come on, the engine to start immediately and then pull away, but instead, to my surprise I started rolling backwards quite fast and had to pull the handbrake to stop hitting the car behind, even though the engine had started again.
Anyone with the TCT ever experienced this?

Mmm that is not good! Maybe hill holder only works when stop start off?

That is what I was thinking, but would be a bit strange if it is so.

Im waiting for an X3 and that has auto handbrake and auto start stop and they work together seamlessly, from this i'd expect the alfa system to also work when the engine has stopped.
I quite fancy a drive of a tct giulietta, i think there is one coming to an event im at tonight, ill ask the chap bringing it how its supposed to work.

From a quick look at the online supplement for the Giulietta TCT (albeit 2011 edition), it looks like the Hill Holder function only works if stop/start is off - it's supposed to disable stop/start when stopping on a hill (just difficult to guess what it considers a hill):
"In the event of stops uphills, the engine
switching off is disabled to activate the “HILL
HOLDER” function, that works with running
engine only, as described in the chapter “Getting
to know your car”, on the Owner Handbook
to which this Supplement is attached.
IMPORTANT In some conditions (for example
with reduced gradients and brake pedal
not fully pressed), the engine switching
off is not deactivated. In this event, fully press
the brake pedal to make the “HILL HOLDER”
function available and restart the engine, using
the gear lever or the levers on the steering
wheel (for versions/markets where provided)
as above described."
Haven't got mine yet to be able to try it out myself.

Hmm, thanks for that, a good find.
I tried to check myself last night but couldn't find the relevant page, maybe I was too tired
So it seems that the Giulietta did not consider the hill a hill. Will have to find another one and try it. We are very short of hills in Finland actually.
