dipped beam bulb change

Hi guys

It took me a day to change the h7 dipped beam bulbs...what a ball ache with the clips which I lost a few times. Also lost the bulb in the housing!! That's when I found this forum...
Lost the bulb all the way inside the housing....had to drive around doing some weaving to get it visible before the trusty wire coat hangar saved the day

Lights done, now to change all the interior bulbs to led's...started wit the puddle lights...will post pics later

I recently had that pleasure...arm was full of scratches it looked like a cat had savaged me!

Still trying to work out how to change the fog lights without removing the bumper as I now have shiny white-blue headlights but still sunshine yellow fog lights!

Hi alan, got them from a store here in south africa, but there are lots of places to buy online, try www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk or just google it.

Sizes so far for all LED bulbs as follows:
All puddle lights are W5W wedge LEDs, no need to be canbus friendly
Boot light is also W5W led non canbus
Front and rear reading lights are 39mm or 41mm festoon LEDs...both sizes work
Glove compartment is W5W LED

6 x W5W's
3 x festoons

Gonna take some pics later and upload tomorrow

Number plate & vanity mirror light!!

Hello,

Nice pics of your interior lights.

I don't know if anyone has managed to get to their number plate bulb yet...what to try is prising with a small flat Screwdriver the hole case including the black plastic housing around the clear part, it should just clip off. Then twist the brown case around the wires it should release an u can get to the bulb. It also takes the same size/type bulb as the boot/glove compartment.

And to get to the vanity mirror bulb u need to remover the entire vanity mirror, case including from the sun visor. Then remove the parts slowly an u will get to the bulb, very tedious an make a mental note so u can remember what part goes where for when u put it back together. U will need a 1.2 watt T5 type bulb, unfortunately I cannot find any bulb like that in LED. If anyone has better luck finding them in the UK let me know please.

Hope this help anyone struggleing. And apologies for any spelling mistakes am typing from my iPhone.

Thanks.

Hi Alan

Same way as you access the glove box light fitting. Carefully use a small flat screwdriver and push into the side of the fitting and pull out the screwdriver and the fitting from that one side - should come out easily - also check the manual for pics (one of the only instructions that was helpfull

Howzit mate - Im in Kyalami

Yes I did get from them - you had issues? Ive bought a few that didnt work but took them back and swapped out...I also use a guy in CPT - good quality stuff - got a set of H7 HID's from him - send me an email and I will forward you his detail :vishal.hurrichund@gmail.com

Ive changed the bulbs in the QV to Phillips crystal visions which are really good - more so due to the projector style housings.

Will send you a pic of the bulbs later tonight

Hi Vishal,

Do the bulbs for the puddle lights have to be 180 degrees or can they be 360 degrees?

And any luck fitting the number plate lights?

Thanks, Jonny

They can be either - the bulb that comes out is a normal halogen bulb which is basically 360degs - my leds are 5 facing wedge types...

Cheers, got some bulbs in but they're not as bright as yours

How did you get to the interior bulbs? Bit scared of poking around too much and breaking something.

Sorry to bother you!

Which interior bulbs are you referring to? the glovebox light is easy...the rear passenger reading light was tough but doable - the manual says to apply pressure at specific points - what it doesnt tell you is that the whole housing comes off...

The driver and front passenger lights are accessed by removing the whole panel - see the manual for instructions on where to apply pressure - take note to be careful if you are not using a trim removal tool as a small flat screwdriver may scratch the cover - comes out pretty easy tho. once you have that off just unplug the wires and unclip the clear cover to access the bulbs...

I dont have the car at the moment - hit a piece of metal on a highway at about 130kph - car is at the panelbeaters - when I get it back I can post some step by step pics of a "how to" if you like

Had another go at fitting the LEDs number plate lights the other day and finally got it sorted. Looking great with against the white body work.

Here are a few tips for anyone wanting to do the same thing. My first attempt with a flat head resulted in damaging the paint on the underside of the bumper so this time i used my small key ring tesco club card and a Stanley knife to pry the right hand side of the light case off. It's the same side for both lights.

With the prying, i placed the clubcard (or any similar sized plastic card) to protect the paint and spread the pressure and one stanley knife to keep the casing wedged open. Another knife was then used to pry the side until it pops out.

Just be careful not to flick off the small metal insert on the inside of the case. I lost one of them down into the inside of the bumper...never to be seen again. This piece clips the casing back into place so without it, the casing will hang loose. I got around this by making a replacement out of a similar size bit of metal from a plug pin.

Connecting up the LEDs was easy enough. Will post some pics later. Hope this helps someone!

Changed mine finally as well - are you getting an error on the dashboard saying"numberplate light not working" even tho it is? I am...I thought these lights didnt have to be canbus friendly? A warning indicator remains on the display in the bottom left corner (where the DNA modes are displayed)

iirc all exterior bulbs need to be can-bus friendly. Interior don't though.
