giulietta factory recall on front suspension

today, i received a call from the dealer about a factory recall to replace something with front suspension. i couldn't find anything here about that, other than a 2010 thread on rear suspension related recall...

what is the story on that? is there an official Alfa Romeo page where one can follow such news?

Be aware that not all calls from the dealer to have something improved/fixed/replaced on your Alfa is a full blown "factory recall" where some catastrophic failure is waiting in the wings if you don't get it fixed. Some minor stuff is published in service bulletins, e.g. replace one type of washer with another, reroute a wire or somesuch.

Happens all the time with all marques. Even my trusty old '97 Punto got a tech note for some firmware, long after it had been relegated to the back yard.

I have no idea what's cooking in your car, but it isn't necessarily serious. Shame you didn't ask for details.

a couple of weeks back, i got the headlamp washer jet changed, which required bumper removal and half a day's job. the fix call was not there, as they'd do it by then. so, it is a recent change, and possibly not top level urgent, but still they asked to get it fixed, which they'll do in two days. i guess, i'll learn more about it then.

Mine went in for rattles and odd noises going over ramps...dealer changed some part on top of rear suspension strut due to a service bulletin. Fronts also in bulletin but parts not available. More a reassurance as I don't detect any issues....

Then there have been no factory recalls!
As posted by twauster above, the modifications people are receiving are service bulletins and aren't a safety defect requiring a recall.

Old thread resurrection. My car has suddenly got a horrible suspension clunk/rattle. It was in at Western Glasgow today (who have been superb by the way) and was told it needs a complete new strut assembly. But when they went to order the part the computer says change both. Something is obviously afoot, so if anyone has any information, please let me know.
I half hope the new struts are a bit shorter than the current one as I feel my car looks too high at the front. Is there a difference in ride height between the Turismo/Lusso and the Veloce spec, as I'll be damned if I can see it

About two months ago mine had a leaking nearside front shock absorber, which for 30,000 miles is a bit odd. They repaced both (without being asked, but as I was told on here by a more learned poster). Now I am absolutely positive it sits higher at the front - I even thought that they'd put lusso suspension on it! It seems to be settling down a bit now, but with the rear well bedded in (and splayed) it does look just a little wrong! I'm assuming that they fitted new rubber bits to the strut on rebuild and these are bedding in. Certainly stopped all the graunching noises over speed humps, improved the steering feel, just seemed to tighten everything up no end, well at the front end. I don't know whether this has anything to do with it but it does make me wonder, particularly with respect to the ride height.

146 1.6TS, 156 2.0TS, 156 1.8TS, 147 1.6TS, 147 2.0TS, 159 1.9JTS, 147 1.6TS, 159 JTDm, Mito 1.4, GT, Giulietta JTDm ....

Hi Stesco, can you tell me the symptoms, was it a hollowly rattle on bad road surfaces, like a chattering? Mine is still doing this....also how did they diagnose the strut assembly?

struts have to be changed in pairs because the difference in wear can cause an MOT failure

That is exactly what it is - a hollowly metallic rattly thud is the best way I can describe it. Not unlike the noise that the 156/147/GT made when the drop links and roll bar bushings were shot.

I was always aaware of something chattering over the last few months, however in the last week or so it has gotten markedly worse. State of the bliddy roads can't be helping either

Thanks for that, I will mention it to dealers, but how I described it was exactly as you said, it sounded like ARB/drop link type of noise....

Well new struts installed, and all seems well. In fact seems like a totally different car to drive, with that pointy, darty Alfa feel revived. Fingers crossed. Got the high level brakelight condensation niggle sorted at the same time too.

By the way - for the record, Western Alfa in Glasgow were stunning. Big thanks to Graham for his help.

I don't think that there is a recall but some of us have had the suspension replaced!

I took my G for service recently and mentioned that I sometimes had knocking noise when reversing on full lock. When I picked the car up later that day, I was told that they'd checked the suspension and greased a few items, but that was it. So... Job done

On Saturday I got a letter fro FIAT group warranties. The detail on the letter was wrong, it had my car as a diesel (!) so I thought I'd better get it corrected.

It transpires that my suspension greasing was actually £500's worth of anti-roll bar and bush replacement, covered under warranty. That's why the letter arrived - it was their acknowledgement of the claim.

I phoned the dealer to find out whether they really had replaced the items, but they couldn't confirm or deny...

Anyone else had warranty work that they weren't aware of?

This is quite common with Toyota for example . And when the first BMW mini came out there was a serious seat recline issue and all the showroom stock was locked. The recall was publicised as a potential fuel cap issue. A friend took his Celica in for a service years ago and they replaced the engine !
You generally get no paperwork for warranty but I had a huge wad of receipts for no charge with my first Audi

And we would know that how, exactly?

I have a very early Giulietta, among the first few thousand made, but I have no idea if they replaced anything without telling me. They may have, but the G felt the same every time I got it back.

I took my 159 in to a main dealer (at the time) for a service, all fine and then after a week I had a bald front tyre. Turned out they'd replaced the rear suspension without resetting the geometry. They agreed to pay for the tyre but not the geometry reset! Perhaps this is why they aren't an Alfa dealer any more?
