I hear a strange sound coming from engine area for few months. It starts to make noise when i power up the car at first time ( when engine is cold) for 4-5 minutes then dissapears . One friend suggested that it could be v belt. I recod it to my mobile phone . Any opinion ?
Checked mine this morning and the "chuff chuff" sound wasn't there. I'll keep an ear out for it.
My G is a 2013 JTDM (140 bhp) and I've had it since new. Can't really place when I first heard the noise, its been at least 18 months. Its been serviced and MOT'ed twice and it was never raised as an issue.
mine (giulietta 2.0 JTDm 170PS) had a similar repeating noise for years, without issues.
a few months back auxiliary belt was changed, and that specific noise was gone. in the meanwhile, the tensioner and idler pulleys were changed, then alternator went bad, and replaced. and after a while i started hearing a similar repeating noise, but a different tone. hopefully, it is nothing, and just the belt settling.
On mine I'm pretty sure it's the aux belt. I always see the printing in the same location as I hear the chuff chuff. The chuffing becomes less and eventually disappears as the engine warms. I'm fairly sure it happensas the printing passes an idler. The timing belt would have a different length so if it was that the printing on the aux belt would be in a different location every time.
I have the same noise in my 155 with 65000 kms from factory. I change cambelts and tensioners each 3 years and it appears with cold weather and with the motor in cold condition also. It depends climate temperature if it goes away in 3 minutes or 10. For my mechanic is a mistery. ( I also changed alternator bearings for nothing ¡ )aranoid:
And this is the title of my thread about this mistery 16-06-2016
" Strange squeal when motor is cold " . You can look at it in the 155 technical assistance chapter
Please up date about this
Did we ever get to the bottom of this, mines still doing it and seems a bit louder now, quietens down a bit when the engine reaches operating temperature.
It appears in winter time, when it is cold or much humidity. And it is the auxiliar belt with the alternator.
Best option is to use the original OEM Alfa belts.
