having placed order for new G Super in July it has now been four and a half weeks since dealer called to say it is at code 50 (arrived in UK) and could I sign the paperwork, which I did the following week by which stage it was code 55. (awaiting transport to dealer) Car has not arrived at dealer yet so have cancelled order. Dealer not happy as paperwork has been registered and tried to tell me that I could not rescind order. Advised him that 'under the Sale of Goods act a contract of sale is not fulfilled until goods have been handed over and accepted' and that I am withdrawing from the contract as they have not fulfilled their part of the contract within a reasonable time (was originally advised Late September at the latest. Salesman then tells me he will have to consult their legal department, My response was simply they had 14 days to return my deposit and the first payment under the PCP that they have also taken or I will also resort to legal remedies.

Am I alone in this practice of registering cars prior to arrival at dealers? Never experienced this before as cars always have been registered by dealer the day I took delivery.:grumpy:

Hi, this sounds very odd, for the dealer to have registered your new car in your name as the first owner you must have given them an insurance cover note/certificate? If you did not give them insurance details then they have registered the car in their name so they now have a new demonstrator on their books that they will have to pay for. Who the hell are they or has the salesman gone rouge?
This is all about targets and commission. Regards:angry:

Remember the free first weeks insurance cover all dealers offer? This came in handy when the same thing happened to us with the Kuga bought last summer. The salesman got his figures and we had a car at the docks in our name. The first payment could be delayed by a month but I'm still confused about when the 24th payment on the pcp happens.

With the August factory shut down (were you told about that?) the length of time for a factory order is pretty much bang on right, so I don't get why you are cancelling?

I ordered my GQV late July last year. It arrived a year ago this Friday.

Am not prepared to name dealer as potential legal action may follow. However, it appears that dealers can register car without the need to provide insurance. Had the same thing recently with a motorbike. It had been registered in my name by dealer. The first thing I had to do was SORN it as was not intending it for road use. apparently PCP kicks in a month after registering and this is the issue. The time it has taken to get it from the docks where I presume it is still sitting!

IIRC, you have to give them 14 days, in writing, informing them if they don't fulfill the order, you'll cancel. I'm no lawyer but been there before. You'd be amazed how quickly that letter will make the car arrive...

Before I moved to Alfas my new cars were Audis and they used to have a statement in the pricelist that they would provide a car in the event that your ordered car was delayed. I'm sure I would have insisted on this if my Giulietta had been late in 2011 but the deals on them new now puts them in a different position than the attempt at that time to be "premium".

Get legal advice. Depending on exactly how you're paying for the car, you might have to go after the finance company or the dealership to get satisfaction.

The sequence here is very odd, though - usually you don't sign the finance agreement until you've got the key in your hand, because once you sign that agreement, the dealership effectively gets the price of the car into their bank account.

Odd set of circumstances. I bought pcp. Chose a car and paid a deposite. Was given a delivery date. Picked car up on the arranged date, signed some stuff and paid contribution plus trade in on another car, drove away, paid 1st pcp payment 1 month later. That's how it works. Any variation from this they are dickin you around and you should walk away even if you lose your £500 deposite.
So far my experience of Alfa uk and dealers has been ok. This is the first new Alfa I've owned and previously I wouldn't go near a main agent with a barge pole as they know nothing about the cars they sell. My 156 is suitably reliable even with high mileage that I've assumed in a pcp deal all the incompetent dealer is going to have to do is not f up the first 3 years servicing. Fingers crossed as I'm enjoying the g.

That's fine if the car you want is in stock as my Giulietta was. If however you buy a car that's in the system and the dealer is using it to reach their sales targets. If it's delayed and you've signed for the original estimated date you'll have to change the date of the first payment.
