My Wiper arm, most of the time, doesn't reset to the proper position. It seems well documented that this is due to the tailgate wiring loom(s) breaking over time. Does anyone have the wiring diagram, or know which wires need to be replaced to remedy the wiper arm issue?
I know the parts are available at £50 each, but a new wire seems like the cheaper and more robust solution, that won't just break again anyway.
I have had the same problem over the last year, one day the wiper does what it wants the next day it parks perfectly. Then for a week it's okay not sure what the root cause is? Anyone else been down this road?:titanic:
" think its just an Alfa/Fiat/ Lancia feature "
And I've noticed several Audi A3 Sportbacks with their wipers parked vertically. I bet there's no cliche amongst Audi owners for that. Just people defeated by the cost of fixing them, even though it's probably the same part.
My rear wiper did what it wanted for about 2 weeks, drove me mad, parked where it wanted to and now for 3 days it does what it should. This can't be a wiring loom thing?? Anyone?
The car has a window and wiper therefore I like to take advantage of them - like any good driver would.
The problem is intermittent, which suggests frayed wires me, and seems well documented on the forums. I was hoping for a diagram before going in blind! I don't want to throw £100 at two looms unnecessarily.
My wiper seems to be back working how it should, but look at this https://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=...rm=Alfa_Romeo_Giulietta_2.0_JTDM_Wiring_Looms £130 for both sides. You shouldn't need a wiring diagram, disconnect the battery, cut the old rubber gaiter off to expose the original loom and cut and crimp each wire of these replacements into the loom based upon wire diameter. Then tuck the original wires into the two cavities in the roof and boot lid, these replacement looms use a better quality wire that will cope with many more openings and closings of the tailgate than the original wire. So far I've only had to replace 1 wire for the lock, so if you do it your self use "tri-rated" cable as it is multistranded and very flexible.
The wiring diagram would be useful so that I can identify which wires run to the wiper and just splice new cable in place of those. £130 for those looms is robbery!
If you're considering splicing the washer cable, you might as well get the whole RHS loom and replace all of it. (8 wires or so). That might be more straightforward than having to get the wire into the existing rubber sleeve.
Note: If you splice just one wire, possible scenario is that after you're done, you notice that the faffing around has pulled another wire out, which would be annoying after the effort.
BTW I have not replaced the looms yet. One point I am not sure about is what do with the antennae cable (replacement loom doesn't come with that).
Problem is like in my case I couldn't find the individual wire that was broken without cutting into the gaiter due to the wires being twisted and so tight. Next time I go in there I'm going to do the lot for piece of mind. The washer pipe is a bit daunting as it means you've added two new joints that could cause problems in the future!
Fixing the wires won't necessarily fix the wiper problem - it hasn't with mine. Do a search on here and you'll see that some suggest it's the body computer (possibly caused by the damaged wires). It would be nice to get a definitive answer as to the cause as it seems to be getting more common now as the cars are getting older.
I got mine fixed as soon as I noticed a wiring fault triggered a tail lamp bulb warning. An £800 warranty job, before any ecu damage could be done. Perhaps this wire would not cause damage to an ecu as the tail lamps are controlled by a simple switch whereas a wiper is more part of the cars "brain".
I think everyone is clear on the availability of this loom, including me in the opening post. Pezzodicento kindly identified the wires which is what I'm looking for (but a wiring diagram would help further, if you have another spare minute).
I'm sure one comes with the instructions for the loom. Or you could change one wire and play tailgate roulette with the next wires.
