Every seat in my Giulietta 2.0JDTM is vibrating or undulating as if on a rough road (but not!). At low speed this is felt through the seat and body like an undulating bumpyness, as if the wheels are oval. At 60mph plus the frequency changes in to more of a vibration (as you might expect). This is felt whilst braking, accelerating or cruising.
I have had the wheels checked and balanced, and also swapped them front to back with no change in the way it feels. I have had the car checked over by various mechanics who can't see any wear or evidence of where the problem may lie.
Have you had a suspension coil break? I had one and drove with it for a year until an MOT picked up on it, the ride was awful and it wasnt until I got my new coils that I realised how bad it was.
Hi All
Could be my car being described, whole car shakes from about 45mph upwards.
Taken to my to my trusted tyre place for a Hunter 4 wheel allignment check and 4 wheel balance.
Both front and rear tracking altered, although only by a small amount - on to the wheel balancing.
Fronts, after previously being done at a national chain, required further small adjustments.
On to the rears, "I think i've found your problem" says the fitter, it's buckled! a dent about 1/4inch deep and 3 inches long on the inner rim- that would be enough to cause your symptons.Ok says i that's unfortunate, onto the next one. That's buckled as well although not as bad, definatly the cause of the shaking issue.Hey ho!
As a bit of background, the car is new to me (2 weeks) and had 4 newish tyres when supplied from a main dealer.
I think impossible to prove it was a pre existing fault, as there was only a very brief test drive ( ia m at fault here).
I suppose the good news is the problem is solved, at the cost of either two new wheels(ouch!) or the alloy wheel man who can fix such defects.
Hope this helps in some way
Thanks for the suggestions. Tyres / wheels / balance / camber etc checked, and re-checked so we don't think it is that. Suspension is OK.
I'm thinking it's potentially the engine mount(s), and or driveshaft balance. I'm also going to change the rear pads and fix slightly sticky caliper - though I doubt that is the cause of such a violent vibration.
Hey Jay, hope i didnt come in too late. I just got my driveshaft serviced today. Total mileage 63k currently. Not sure if the previous owner had too much fun with it. its officially been driven about 8k with me to have this pain.
Early Symptoms: steering vibrations when accelerating from 100km/h... slight vibrations which slowly started becoming rougher after a couple of days. When cruising anywhere above or below 100 there's no vibration. Only on the acceleration. You would start to feel them at turns too.
The longer it takes you to have them serviced, it will eventually vibrate at low acceleration too i would expect.
Engine mounts if worn: your side mirrors would vibrate when at idle.... more so depending on the wear... I've driven a truck before, could live with it longer. :bigmouth::rofl:
But the mounts have also been ordered and its just waiting for me to arrange a change.
What effect does depressing the clutch while cruising have on the vibration? A little eratic driving on a quiet road might differentiate between the driveshaft and engine mount theories.
Check your exhaust too. It maybe too close to the underside of the car or have a broken hanger? Stranger things have happened.
This turned out to be a defective tyre with a slight lumpiness! Not going back to that tyre place again but back to smooth motoring at least
