Hi all,

I am thinking of purchasing a Giulietta Cloverleaf or Sportiva 1.4 Multi-air (170) in the near future. The preference is on the QV of course! I'll want a well-spec'd one with leather, BOSE, 18-inch alloys and pref Sat Nav (although not essential).

Are there any obvious or reoccurring faults that have developed with these models, anything specific to look out for or things that generally wear or go wrong specific to these models.

I know service history is king, cambelt change and to check for all the usual knocks and discrepancies etc but I just wondered if there was anything that goes wrong and to focus on (a bit like the M32 gearbox in the 159 1.9 JTDM for example).

Many things don't present themselves for a few years so I thought a good idea to start my research!

Thanks in advance!

There's a few threads on here that identify the biggest culprits, but they mostly affected early cars. There was a model refresh in mid 2014, which was mainly nicer interiors and more supportive seats. We are on our second G, went from a 2012 170 Veloce manual to a 2014 170 QV line TCT, which has the bigger brakes and lower suspension, so is a good alternative to the full blown QV!

Both have been great, the first one only had one fault in 2 years, which was a fan switch failure, which is becoming common. Was fixed under warranty, but half the dash had to come out!

The second one has had a few dash and door speaker rattles, again fixed under warranty, as well as the outside temp sensor, which required a new door mirror and is also becoming common.

Overall they are bloody good cars. I love the TCT, but then I liked the selespeeds too! TCT is almost as good, but much more reliable.

Some good cautionary points there. Just the kind of thing I'd like to know about I guess.

I probably won't be able to spend more than £9-£10k which will limit me to an earlier QV. I've heard of issues with multi-air units on the 1.4 engine but don't know how much of an issue this is. The Sportivas seem to be later model years and better spec'd with leather etc. I'd love to have leather and the BOSE stereo plus the tele-dial QV alloys. Metallic red, 8C red, Alfa red or white would suffice. Not too much of a wish list then!

I have just made the jump from a V6 166 to a Giulietta Sportiva. I went to the dark side and bought a 2013 2.O JTDM2 in Maranello Red. Don't dismiss the diesel out of hand - its a belter of an engine - in dynamic mode it can seriously shift - the electronic Q2 kicks in! Would leave my 2.5 V6 for dead.

The interior of the Sportiva cars are really special - the sport leather in black looks like it came from a Ferrari with its red stitching, it really is that good. The dark headlining really makes a difference to the ambience inside the car - dark and moody. Mine came with the titanium finish 18 inch wheels with the red brembo calipers. The diesel also comes with the twin tailpipes which is a must on a Giulietta in my eyes. Only disappointing thing I found is that Blue & Me doesn't pair with android phones for music playback - this is easily remedied by putting your music on a dongle and plugging it into the usb in the glovebox.

Really pleased with mine as you can tell - its the performance from the engine that still manages to put a smile on my face, doesn't feel like a diesel in that it revs all the way to the red line without any harshness.

Get a Giulietta, as a long time Alfa driver I can say you wont be disappointed.
