I've seen a 2012 Giulietta Veloce 2 litre Automatic 170bhp, Road tax £30
and Giulietta Veloce Manual 2102 or 2013 140bhp, road tax £30

Generally I enjoy manual cars better and actually I've never driven an automatic.

Anyone has any input/advice that which one I should choose? how is the automatic gearbox on 2012 2 litre Veloce?

Both diesels then? I've hankered after a TCT for years and finally got it - two weeks ago. So far I find it nearly perfect. I say nearly because it occasionally gets caught out coming into an island in too high a gear but now I anticipate this and knock it down a cog or two with the paddle. I cant get on with the sequential stick mode, it seems alien to me to push and pull for gear changes but some people love them. I personally really like the paddles. The nice thing is you can use whatever mode you fidn the best, its up to you or just stick it in D. The drive is so smooth with TCT, I have driven a lot of slush box autos in the US and found them great there but wanting on our roads. Not so the TCT, I'm a convert and love it. Plus my arthritic left hip is enjoying the rest.

I bought mine 2 weeks ago - the 170 TCT picks up nicely from 30-70 entering the motorway and can punch up to 90 as quick as most things without kicking down with a light right foot.
I find it pretty jerky at low speeds <20 it can't decide what gear it needs to be in and I've had to take manual control a few times to stop me bunny hopping.
I'm going to change the transmission oil to see if that solves it.

In comparison my Audi S-Tronic was much better at low speeds but more troublesome at high speeds and kickdown.

I'm still glad I bought the TCT though because my left knee's knackered and one bad traffic jam in a manual leaves me in agony for days.

If I was choosing my car again I would go with a petrol. It is only when you drive the cars back to back that you realise how unrefined the diesel is in comparison.

Interesting observation, I have just gone from petrol to diesel (G->G).
What I noticed was at low/parking speed the Diesel is more gruff/clattery, but at cruising speed the diesel is quieter than the petrol.
I prefer the power delivery of a Petrol, but the company prefers the running cost..

Oh and I'm happy with M/T, I can't comment on the TCT experience.

First post

Hello,
it's my first post here and I just wanted to share my experience.
Since july this year we are the proud owners of a 2015 Giulietta 1.4 170 petrol MA TCT (the red one with the red Brembo brakes).
We are driving a LOT on the motorway. The TCT is perfect for long driving. We just came from a long drive yesterday and it was absolutely fun to see it head to head against a BMW or audi that seem surprised as we cruised along at 180 Km/hr or more (we live in Germany). At this speed the fuel consumption is a bit high, going at about 8-9L of steady cruising.
But there is a little bit of a problem with the TCT and that is when we start it up in the morning. It need about 300-400 meters to "warm up". Up until that point it is a bit "jerky". One workaround is to just wait a minute after you start up the car, to let it warm up a little. I already do that, since I share the car with my wife and changing the mirror and seat positions take a little over a minute.
I can only say that it is unbelievable what joy it is to drive around in this gem.
If you have any more questions, just feel free to ask.

To reply to the original post, It's really down to personal choice.
My first G (2011) was a 2.0 jtdm manual 170bhp. The current G is 2.0 jtdm TCT and to me they are worlds apart. I love the lazy effortless drive of the TCT and linked with the torque of the jtdm you don't have to work it hard to get shifting :D
