Well i've had my auto 159 2.4 for a while now with no issues what so ever (touch wood), My Mrs has just started to search for a new (well used) car and seems to have fallen in love with the Giulietta, we are looking at around a 2013 model, we have found two both are 2.0 diesel both are TCT both are 1 owner with FSH one is on 45K the other on 70K. I'm just looking for any advice on the longevity of the TCT gearbox has anybody had or got one with higher miles is it still going strong with no or minimal issues. i've read a few of the issues on here on some very low milage newish models, and the diesel seems to be a safer bet than a multi air, i think what i'm asking here is what to look our for TCT wise when test driving any tell tale signs or little tests to try. We test drove a DSG TT which got stuck in reverse the chap said it would be repaired if i bought it but we kinda decided to walk away hence my slight concern over TCT. Thanks in advance chaps.

Had a used 2.0 diesel TCT for a year with low mileage then I sold it for a Giulietta Cloverleaf :0)
Had a problem with it not going into gear or changing up on cold mornings turned out it was the battery that was at fault, other than that it was fine, not the most intuitive box I've had since it sometimes got confused when approaching roundabouts and selected the wrong gear.

I've had a couple now & neither have given me any issues. The first was a diesel & was faultless by 68k miles & the current is in a MA TB - again no issues at 25k.

If anything, I find it a tad more intuitive than the DSG with a nicer change, both up & down. It (the petrol one) can sometimes hold a gear longer than I'd like on hills but, generally speaking, it responds well to throttle input.

The best compliment I got for it was a Golf GTi driving mate who wished his had the same box in it once he'd driven mine.

the shift points are VASTLY different between N and D on the diesels: generally you won't go over 1700 rpm (unless you push the gas deep) in N, and in D you'll never go below 1700.

D really is not intended for street use, but it came right into it's own on my ring trip last year. I missed a lot of turn points, but the TCT was ALWAYS in the right gear.

On the street I usually drive in A-mode. If you've got good tyres it's actually significantly quicker than N-mode and the box is more likely to swith down to 1st gear at roundabouts if you come to a near stop.

I got mine since new, 2013 model with 47k on it now. No issues...

Thanks for the replies so basically nothing much to worry about as long it feels ok on the test drive, How are you finding the MA vs the diesel ? My Mrs does about 7k a year so maybe the MA would be a better option i've just read a lot on here about people having issues with it.

I have mixed feelings about the TCT in my 2.0 JTDM 2013 sportiva.

Sometimes it absolutely flies particularly on clear roads i.e. Motorway and smooth as butter. But other times it's jerky, clunky and very uncomfortable.

If like me you encounter a lot of stop-start traffic on your daily commute you will find it very annoying.

I've had 3 automatics in the last few years and I'd have to say this is 3rd on my list after the flawless DSG in my Tiguan and the responsive ZF auto in my bimmer 320d.

To be fair mines similar to yours and im on my second gearbox (first was changed under warranty due to leaky shaft seal). Sometimes its smooth as mustard, other times it isnt. Even after the software update in March this year. Ive just accepted it.
