At Portbury they fit the alloy wheel locks and record the code, occasionally change alloy wheels to suit the order, remove certificate of conformity and any other key code info which is presumably then loaded onto the dealer system.
Possibly do the UK anti theft register stuff too. And kit mats where supplied with the model?
And rectify any damage in transit.

When I used to work with Rover/BMWs the market specific software codes might be set at the port of entry too (e.g. Alarm modes, remote starting).
Additionally cars would be set to "transit mode" during shipping to minimise battery draw and to disable the windows apart from the driver one. I think this would be turned off at the port too.

Thank you all for the replies, much appreciated, sorry I've been busy with work and trying to find a new house. Haven't heard back from mangos just yet, but I'll phone them up tomorrow and pester them a bit.

What seems strange is that they've told me they don't know where the car is, and that it's not on their system at the moment. Though when I pressured them about the V5C, they said yeah we can see the reg on our system. Something doesn't add up, is it, or is it not on their system. I'm afraid that it might've been damaged in transit. I hope it wasn't, I hope it's just a case that it's at the port and they haven't received info of it being shipped to them yet.

Re the car being registered in 2016 and if the warranty starts in 2016. Honestly I don't care, and I really don't want to sound snobby here at all, I do apologise if I do. This will be my 5th car, and I don't plan on keeping the cars for more than 3 years anymore. I bought the current Giulietta in March 2014 (when the new facelift model came out), and I'm handing it back to FCA this month. It's cheaper (at least compared to my old Fiat Stilo) and more convenient for me to have a good reliable car that I can travel in without worrying if it's gonna break down on the motorway (I've had it so many times with the Stilo where it would give me an engine fault whilst on the motorway, had to stop get my laptop plug it in, clear errors, check it's nothing serious etc). As for part ex value, there's none in it for me, as I take a new PCP every 3 years, and just hand the other one back to the finance. So not loosing anything really if it's registered in 2016 or 2017. BTW: I'm aware it might not be the most cost-effective solution, but 1. I love having a shiny new thing :P and 2. I'm not gonna take my money into the ground with me, might as well enjoy it now whilst I can. That said I'm already looking forward to the Stelvio haha

Interesting Gaz, didn't know they do so much at the port, I thought they just unload them, store them if needed be and load them onto a lorry for transport to the dealer.

Again many thanks to you all for the replies, lots of info. You're an excellent bunch

I imagine there are rebates from Alfa to the dealer's based on units sold, so for example if they needed one more to reach a rebate target by the end of 2016, they would register it early to get the rebate. Just guessing but this is what happens in other industries selling things similar to cars.

Why is it that every time you phone up the bleeding garage they're busy and they'll call you back "shortly" and then never hear from them for a week
Rant over.

This waiting for new factory builds isn't only Alfa. I know loads of people with Mercs, BMs and Renaults who all have moving dates for builds / delivery. It is something the car industry needs to improve on. These are big ticket items that people need to have some idea on delivery of!
When I ordered my GTA in 2002 I was told 16 weeks, it took 34 weeks. Nothing has changed!

I fully understand that it's not only Alfa. I phoned them up again, and again they were busy, though I did press that I need to talk to someone and I need to know if they found my car. Surely enough 2 mins later I get a phone call back from them. So apparently the Alfa system doesn't have a way of tracking or knowing where the car is. Once it reaches a certain stage or build level whatever it's called apparently they don't get anymore info until it's with them. Bit silly if you ask me. All they know is that the car should be delivered this week, or early next week (same thing again, the exact same thing I've been told for nearly 2 weeks). Apparently they had a delivery this morning, but they don't know what cars came with the delivery

Honestly they should all improve their systems, how hard would it be to have a barcode scanning system that tells them it arrived in Portbury, it left portbury, etc. I'm sure this system is used in many other occasions... oh yes any decent postal/delivery system has it.

Maybe I'm anxious and I want my car as soon as possible, but what really grinds my gears is the constant it will be here this week or next week. At least say look it'll be here end of January, and if it's sooner then all the better, but don't get one's hopes up.

I still have questions I've asked them that are unanswered. But hey ho, sorry for the second rant of the day. Has anyone else got any news on their order as of yet? Maybe some other lucky person here who got their Giulia? I'd love to see more photos of the cars

Got a call from the dealer and my 2.0 Super is with them and I can collect on Friday! That will be six weeks from order confirmation.
Assume they must have been able to change an existing order, extras are Monza Red, seven hole wheels, paddles, black leather, electric seats and mirrors.

HYPE Bus! nice one, make sure to post pics when you get it on Friday. Would love to see the wheels.

So Mangos phoned me up earlier saying they got the car, it was on the transport they received today! Already booked the pickup on Thursday at 2pm Can't wait, I'm pacing around my office now, going for a cig every 10 mins, hoping time will pass quicker.

I'll make sure I'll put loads of photos on, and if any of you have any questions re the Speciale let me know and I'll try and answer them as soon as I pick it up

The hype is real

Great news.

Must have been on the same transporter as mine as they also phoned me up earlier with the same news. There's no rush for mine as the detailer can't sort it out for a few weeks, so I'll probably pick it up next week sometime, Wednesday probably.

Keep an eye out for mine when you are there, a red one with beige seats.

What do you need a detailer for? Will do if I see it I'll try and take a photo of it

@metalgod23 sorry not sorry :P ordered mine in early November so actually it's not bad, 8-9 weeks. I prefer diesel, as I do long journeys and have been more than happy with my 2.0l diesel Giulietta. Had to make a very sad phonecall today to FCA to tell them they can come pick up the Giulietta Will make sure to post photos of the seats as well, I went boring colours though, white ext, black interior so nothing spesh there

Thanks.

I'll be keeping mine for about 6 years so I'm getting the paint protected by a detailer as it makes the world of difference and I'm having it done by a local guy who is a perfectionist with fantastic reviews rather than the dealer. I've asked the dealer not to clean the outside.

I had my Brera detailed a few years ago and it still looks great. Over in the photo lounge, there are various comments from people about my Brera and how nice it still looks.

Ah I see, makes sense then, don't know how you can have the patience though. Can I be cheeky and ask you for the detailer's details? (ha!)

Going there now, quite curious as I've always loved the brera and the spider, though never had the chance to own one.

I'm going to use https://topcardetailing.co.uk but he's booked up for a while, which is one reason why I'm using him. I think he's going to post the results on one of his social media pages when it's done.

I've used Griffiths Detailing | Detailing | Paint Correction | Cheshire | Paint correction and Detailing Cheshire before and were very good, but they have moved a bit further away. There's another chap on the forum uses him.

I'll still take the car out before it gets done, but not every day. Just when the weather is nice!

Here's a couple of pics of my Brera http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/meets...ch-2016-a.html

In their defence this bit is true. Once it gets to the Status where it's on the transporter, they don't know where it is until it gets to them. They can tell it's on the boat, at the docks, with transport company, but the next stage after that is 'arrived at dealer'. I used to get cars turn up at the dealer which were still showing as at the docks, so it is a bit random. However, they could've just explained that to you rather than saying they dunno where the car is, which lays down a whole World of possibilities to an expectant customer!

Glad it's arrived though!

Time to reveal! I have now had the order sheet sent to me so now I feel my Giulia is really on order, I hadnt said anything before because a hole in my credit card for a deposit and a written new car order hardly felt anything to celebrate about.

I have on order, expected delivery 1st week of March a Super 2.0, with beige and walnut lusso pack in Monty blue. I added flappy's, 17" Sport wheels, red calipers and lighting pack.

Obviously it all seemed too good to be true... The handover specialist is apparently on holiday so another sales person will hand over the car to me today. Problem is he just asked me if I have proof that current Alfa customers, or people who went to the events get that extra 1000 discount... It's on the bleeding order form! I have a feeling they want to make me pay an extra 1000 pounds today, if they do that I will not take delivery of the car unfortunately. I'm not some kind of chump to be toyed with and cheated. When I went to order the car the same person who asked me about this today added it to the order sheet for me. Something smells fishy. So I opened up a case with Alfa UK, hopefully they'll sort it out, but seriously way to go to my dealership, ruining someones day! It's supposed to be a happy day, I take delivery of my new car, instead I'm angry and frustrated.

If this happens to any of you, don't back down, call Alfa UK, fight for it. They promise us something and then they sneakily try and make us pay more even when it's written down black on white!

So sorry to hear your day has been spoilt by the Alfa dealer..... Well done on opening a case. The more people that complain to Alfa the better. Simply just accepting their bad practices and we have no chance that Alfa will sort out the dealer network once and for all in the future.

I think ive got to the point where as much as I want a giulia qv I'm not going to order a new one... I'm now going to wait and get one that is 18 months old and if I can get one that is not at an Alfa dealer or even a private sale, I will do that.

Sadly to me , Alfa dealers don't seem to make buying a new car the pleasure it should be

Truly horrified to hear you experience. Let me get this right.... so they want YOU to GIVE THEM proof that current Alfa owners get the 1000 loyalty bonus? If so, they should give you proof not otherwise! Proof is many others have got this loyalty discount, including me. All my dealer wanted was a V5 in my name showing an Alfa.

If your dealer is asking for proof of Alfa ownership then fair enough, but if the price and any discounts is on the order form, then they are legally obliged to honour it.

And this is exactly the kind of dealership bullsh*t that Alfa UK need to be out there cracking down on! What a ridiculous thing to say to a customer when it's already been agreed! I despair. I suspect Alfa Italy probably despair too!
