8c paint

Can someone tell me what is special about the paint on the 8c(part from it being nice colour!), as I'm curious why to have this colour paint option on the cloverleaf costs an incredible £15200!

Re: 8c paint

Probably to add some exclusivity to the brand, I doubt they will even sell one. But it does give them some PR...

Re: 8c paint

My guess is it's all in the process behind the paint...

The car gets anodised in a top secret soup in a process that positively charges the bodywork. It then gets a powder coat with a super mega secret powder that gets baked on. You then get the paint (loads of it) and a clear ceramic based lacquer resistant to sctraches gets laid on. Any blemishes get buffed out before going to final buffing and polishing. Anything too big to buff out, gets sent back. That should tally 15200!

Yep! You've seen the Ferrari factory doco too then! Did your also see the Masers on the same line? They all go through the same process hence I'm guessing the 8C paint job, considering the price tag, is in there too.

Re: 8c paint

I hope the option for the 8c paint on the mito won't cost that much - otherwise I'll stick with the metalic black/red :P

Re: 8c paint

I heard that Alfa had the whole range at Goodwood in the 8c candy red (or whatever it is called) - Punters were told that the cars such as the Brera were not available in that colour but that they could buy the one on display for £15k over list price.

Re: 8c paint

There's a GT Cloverleaf at the British Motor Show this week, the guys there told me the same thing about the cost and time it takes, they also said the whole underside of the car is painted like it too!

It looks amazing, I would love to have it in that colour but can't justify a £15k option on a £22k car!!

Re: 8c paint

The trouble is I cant see many people paying a massive premium for that paint colour on a 2nd hand one in say 3 or 4 years time. If you had a fairly heavy accident in it, the cost of the paint could tip the repair cost over it's value and write the car off! lol

Even a scratch could see you in trouble, not sure what the insurance company would think of it
