Re: Fan not kicking in on radator
Hi Everyone, my first posting... For peace of mind, I always end up converting an electric-fanned car to a dash-mounted switch. These are available in a variety of styles to suit any car, and take the possibility of a corroded cut-in switch out of the equation. I use new wiring (fused, of course) from the battery to the new dash switch and down to the fan, and simply earth the other terminal. Get it wrong and it spins backwards! If your fan motor has failed, don't panic, there is almost an industry-standard across dozens of other cars for the three mounting bolt-holes which secure the fan into the - often plastic - frame. A brief foray into a breakers' yard WILL surely turn up something suitable untill/if you replace with one specifically for your car. Hey, if your fan-frame is just iron-oxide, you can probably rig a plastic replacement in its' place.
Had all this last week with a friends VW Jetta, got it to do this weekend with my STUPID EBAY BUY of a near-terminally corroded 75 TS.
Anyone for a 75 chat, please email me. I'm near Portsmouth, Hampshire, and I'm after a rear-axle...
