A loud bang from under my car?!
I have a 1983 gtv6 and whilst driving it through the country lanes of Northumberland tonight, under medium acceleration in 3rd gear, thee was such a BANG come from around the gearstick/centre console area. After that, the whole car seems to shudder as you drive it so obviously I backed right off and crawled home. Oil pressure/water temp - all things like that are perfect, engine still runs lovely, but as you rev. it, there is like a rumbling but DEFINITELY NOT from the engine. It is as if something has gone out of balance and certainly seems like something that is rotating after the engine, done a few brief checks and nothing seems to be "hanging off" anywhere, engine mountings are fine - does anyone have an idea what could have happened??
A bit of history...... up until four month ago - the car had stood dry stored for 13 years so I have just completed a part restoration on it including full engine service/fuel system overhaul/Brakes overhauled/new geabox mounts/suspension professionaly checked and overhauled.
As I have just got the car on the road in the last couple of days and was absolutely over the moon with the way the car was running etc. I am now at a loss as to the BANG IN NORTHUMBERLAND!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
