What do I do with it?
A 75 TS Veoce.
Purchased in 1999 or 2000 from a man who had never exceeded 3000 rpm in the car! As a consequence of my better half parking an XM without setting the hand brake the front bumper assembly has broken side fixings and presently sits in the back garden. The rest of the car has sat on the driveway for the past 6 years. Too many other alternatives are my excuse for neglecting it so. Prior to this the car was in regular use and good overall condition apart from a rash of chipped paint on the leading edge of the bonnet. Regularly serviced and maintained by a local AR specialist and from memory showing 80-90,000 miles.
A cursory inspection shows the usual rusting around the rear off side lights and a rusty boot floor. The rest of the bodywork is amazingly good with none of the usual rust creep around screen edges. The interior is grey cloth and the rooflining is beginning to sag. Engine has not been started for past 3 years. Some very minor welding around one jacking point performed for last MOT, otherwise it has seen no welding repairs.
This car was a great drive and I have never driven since any Alfa that could generate the same smile. Particularly memorable was driving on an empty, snow covered A road in the style of a ballet dancer, overtaking a V6 156 on the outside exiting a roundabout; one of the propshaft donuts shed a hunk of rubber at the time and clocking 120 mph on an empty M25 in the small hours.
This car should be restored to usefulness. I don't have the skills or time. It could possibly be made driveable again using an AR specialist for £1,000 or really worked upon and repainted for £3,000. I don't see the point in spending money on it to end up with a car that is worth much less than the cost and would only be driven by me on rare occassions despite the smile factor.
Will anyone offer me some options/alternatives or encouragement? I will not let this car go to be broken or turned into a track car. Sooner see it decline to a pile of rust and annoy the neighbours.
