Buying a 75

Hi guys, Im new on here. Ive always wanted to own an alfa anf think its about time that one sat on my drive and replaced my Audi 80 coupe.

I like the 75 for the v6 engine and rear wheel drive.........

Could you let me know if there is anything that I should be looking out for when buying one i.e. common problems etc. how are they for parts and upgrades?

any information would be great.

many are now getting rusty, most cars are around 20 years old. Galvanising slows the process down, it does not eliminate it, so look especially around the boot floor, under the rear lights, rear wheel arches (they have plastic covers on that mask rust a treat), also around the front screen and sunroof.

After that decide 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0, twinny 2.0s handle better, 3.0s are fastest and 2.5s sound nicest.

Electrics can be problematic, but not impossible to solve, most do not have aircon, ABS, not an airbag in sight, from an age when a sunroof was a luxury.

Parts availability is good still, from EB spares and Highwood Alfa, nut do not expect dealer to know how to fix them, they rarely see them let alone work on them, and Alfa specialists do not see them that often either, so home spannering and joining alfaromeo75.co.uk is almost compulsory.

Good advice above. However, if you can find a good one they are brilliant cars. As with most Alfas they are underdamped but upgraded dampers (and also springs if you wish) are easily obtainable and reasonably priced when compared to later cars. Of course a 20 year old car will require a higher rate of fettling and problem solving. The transaxle transmission is complex. However, mine was considerably more reliable and less failure prone than my 156s were. It would be worth approaching either EMC Racing or Alex Jupe as they may know of decent cars and would be entirely honest.

they are brilliant! get one! that said my lovely little twinny hardly ever gets out to play as always too busy with work to teh degree that i'm pondering on selling

TS handle so much better than the v6 but teh v6 sounds so nice.... dilema...

mine stands me at £3k with tubular manifold, oil cooler, alfaholics handling kit, new poweflex all around and adjustable shocks - best £3k car you can buy IMO pucker rwd and lsd to liven the back end up a little bit

I paid £800 for the basic car.... Nut slippery slope to get it just right!
