Hi i'm about to purchase an alfa romeo 75

it's a 1988 verde and has the 3.0 12v v6. this will be my first Alfa and i'm looking forward to it!! the seller says the car will not go into gear. he said he replaced the shift linkage a while back but now it just won't go into gear...what could this mean?? bad clutch and/or throwout bearing?? i hope nothing any more serious than either of those...

car is in pretty rough shape but mechanically it seems fine and the price is right. i'm afraid the previous owner of this car was essentially TRYING to kill it...what a shame. he is selling it as a parts car but the only real problem he says is the inability to shift into gear...car only has 73k miles on it. i have to get a history report still and i'm also wondering if it's easy to wind back the clocks on these cars...you know what i mean...

any info/help is greatly appreciated!!!

thanks!!

Both me and my friend bought 75's with gearbox/clutch problems.

He had to replace the clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder and some bearings to fix his, and I replaced gearbox, because I couldn't engage 1st and 2nd.

IMHO It could be quite expensive if you're not doing it yourself...

and yeah i would be doing all the work myself. the seller said it was just the shifter linkage but i know these cars have transmission issues...
