Re: Test Drove a 75
Yes, as purple says, 1st/2nd/rev crunch is compulsory - 'they all do that guv!' Peeling laquer is also complusory. They were galvanised by '91 so rust isn't as bad as the reputation, you still need to look under the rear arches, and under the rear lights. Also there's a water trap where leaves get in under the front screen and rot sets in on the bulkhead around the heater but you'll have a job to spot that. Fuel tanks often rust badly on the TS. Something definately wrong with the clutch / oily gearbox casing. Maybe an oil seal has failed and as you say, contaminating the clutch. Suggest you use it as a bargaining tool, if you don't mind me asking, how much is it going for? I too have a '91 TS with 104k miles!
Other problem areas are usually dodgy electrics, check control panel lights up like a Christmas tree, indicator switches are fragile and very rare - did you find the main / dipped switch?
Go for it, the best 4 wheeled fun I've ever had, if it hasn't already been done, fit a handling kit - lower & stiffer springs, uprated shocks and fatter front ARB...
