To whom should I entrust my precious SZ?
I am looking for recommendations for an independent specialist worthy of looking after the more complex aspects of the maintenance/improvement of my SZ. The car is in truly excellent condition (having covered very few miles) but, has been laid up for lengthy periods both before and during my ownership. It's time to put that right!
I should say, that I am fussy, have high standards, value a conscientious customer focussed pro-active professional approach, but do not want to be fleeced in the process!
Names that spring to mind and look interesting are:
AH Motorsport, EMC racing, Jamie Porter.
There may well be others, in which case, please feel free to suggest them.
If anyone has any experience of, opinion and/or comment (good, bad or indifferent) on these workshops (especially if that is transaxle based experience), I'd be very interested to hear it, either publicly, via the forum or via PM.
In the future, I will also be considering who to assist me with the specialist aspects of restoring (to a very high standard) my Alfetta GT, so it would be great to start building a relationship with the right workshop now.
Thanks all in advance.

EMC do specialise in the transaxle cars, so an SZ is a bit more of a regular visitor to their garage

Jamie Porter is probably the place to go. I think he has his own and services a fair few others.

Jamie does most of them in the UK. I would even think about taking it anywhere else.
He has his own with the custom black interior as he told me being in his business it's probably for the best!

Great to have some fast responses so far. Keep 'em coming folks, especially if you have had direct experience with any of them.

Thanks for the recommendation always appreciated but I have to say I would recommend Jamie Porter of Alfaworkshop, this is more his sort of thing.
Good luck whatever you decide
Ned

Adie at AH motorsports is good, but he can be busy quite a bit, the email adress does get answered though.

Re: To whom should I entrust my precious SZ?
Where in the UK are you? Rusper Alfa are very nice chaps, their based near Gatwick. I've just been to Le Mans with Angus (one of the directors) and Rob, their sales guy. Gus used to be a helicopter engineer so his standards are the highest (no pun intended), I've also had a good look at his Guilia Spider and historic rallying Guilia Sprint, both restored to an extremely high standard.

Re: To whom should I entrust my precious SZ?
I can also recommend Alfa Aid in Maidenhead. My SZ had been laid up in storage for a few years when I bought in 2 years ago. Alfa Aid comprehensively refurbished the car and now it is running like a dream. They also have the last remaining Eibach uprated front anti rollbars in stock too!
Good luck with the project

Re: To whom should I entrust my precious SZ?
Yep I'd recommend JP@ the Alfaworkshop. When I had my 145 serviced and new cambelt fitted there were two SZ's in the workshop. He fired it up to move it to allow space for my car... it sounded absolutely amazing, and thats idling!!
I remember asking him if I should take it easy for a few miles after he had fitted the new belts to my car his response was "no take it out and put your foot down" - A true Alfisti

Jamie looks after my SZ and I wouldn't take it anywhere else. Keen prices, too.
I like the look of that Montreal on his website...

Re: To whom should I entrust my precious SZ?
Alex Jupe ( www.alexjupemotorsport.co.uk) is a transaxle specialist and restored/looks after my GTV6 & 75. Highly recommended.
I can also recomemnd Rusper Alfa ( www.rusperalfaromeo.com). My GTV V6 is a regular there.

Re: To whom should I entrust my precious SZ?
I would recommend Adrian at Alfa Aid or Ramesh at Alfarama depending in what area your in, ive seen SZ's at both places and saw a black RZ down at alfarama when my car was booked in. Both very knowledgeable people, i think Ramesh does even older cars like Montreals, bertone's etc.

Re: To whom should I entrust my precious SZ?
Got to be Jamie Porter. He is well known in Alfa circles as shown and is considered the SZ man. I have only ordered parts from him and discussed issues on the phone or via email but always happy to help even when there is nothing in it for him.
I think you will find he is a real enthusiast and top mechanic. Good Luck.

Another recommendation for Rusper here. Really nice, honest chaps and, from my experience, Dave and Angus don't like to be beaten by any problem.

Re: To whom should I entrust my precious SZ?
I've been taking my 156(s) to AH Motorsport for years now, Adie seems to be very good, honest and reasonably priced (for the south east anyway) ... I pretty sure I've seen an SZ in there whilst I've been getting work done on my car (I'd love an SZ ... but not overly practical as a day to day car ...)
