What Is The Value Of A Restored 75 2.5L ?, And Advise Please.
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering what the value of a mint fully restored 75 2.5L V6 Cloverleaf is in UK £s. I can't find the information on the net anywhere.
The reason I ask is that i've fairly recently picked up a dark green 75 for £250 and I like the car so much I was thinking of restoring it.
The bodywork is very good ( no Rust at all ! ), but some small areas are looking faded. So full respray needed I guess.
Interior - seats need new material as they are threadbare to say the least ! I've put leather effect covers on for now, looks smart at least. All dials, switches, lights, heater, alfa control, etc all working perfectly.
Mechanics - power steering not working ( fluid leaks, previous owner tried a repair kit but it didn't work ! ), otherwise all runs well.
So the bottom line is how much for a ball park figure to restore the car ( I know its hard to tell without seeing the car ! ), but please humor me and give me an idea . Also how much I could insure it for ( can I set the insurance value myself ? ).
It just seems such a shame to let the car deteriorate any more as its a great car to drive and comfortable as well. They also appear to be rare as well.
Thanks for reading.

Not as much as it will cost you to do it Sure you can't sort the paintwork out with some decent products and a lot of elbow grease?

Re: What Is The Value Of A Restored 75 2.5L ?, And Advise Please.
insurance cost me £200 for £2k agreed value on a limited mileage policy as they are now into classic territory, however not all policies cover for commuting, which is a pain if its a nice day and you need cheering up.
The trouble with these cars they can be addictive and a restoration can cost a fortune. I have seen cars for as much as £4k for a fairly standard one, don't know if it sold for that though, I suspect not. The other thing affecting value is a rather small target audience, a Spider by comparison will appeal to many because of the open roof and the GTV, its coupe looks. I overheard someone saying about my car its was the ugliest car he had ever seen (I took it as a complement ).
Do it because you like the car and wish to have a sense of achievement in keeping it going and looking good and meeting like minded people, but it will not make you any money, probably the reverse.

I've tried a spot with some t-cut and it doesn't want to know its too far gone. The main bodywork is fine but the bits around the window mainly and the sills at the top of the doors that need a proper respray.

Thanks for the advice . I would restore it too keep not to make money. I really like the style of the car and its uniqueness, and I want to keep a bit of history alive. Any ideas on a rough full restoration and value after restoration?.
I basically am a bit apprehensive about spending Thousands then being told i can only insure it for £500 !
Can I set the value of the car with an insurer or do they get someone to value it for them ?
Oh I forgot to say there is a mint 75 on Ebay at the moment for £5995.00

I'd budget 2k for a respray, assuming no major bodywork is required and it's in the same colour. I can imagine you'd be looking at 4k to return to standard, assuming it's just little bits and pieces - but depends how much you want to do, and to what standard!

Re: What Is The Value Of A Restored 75 2.5L ?, And Advise Please.
you can get agreed value insurance, so if it does get written off, you get the agreed value, eg your £3k rather than the £250 you bought it for or market value. If you get a copy of Practical Classics or similar there are lots of ads for such insurance.
There was a green 75 2.0 on ebay recently with tan leather seats, looked fantastic. For a rough idea on current value, try Auto Italia. The boss of the mag is selling his 2.0 for £3k at the moment.

Re: What Is The Value Of A Restored 75 2.5L ?, And Advise Please.
interesting subject this one....
there have been some specials recently for sale (not on fleabay i might add)
one was 12k, another was 16k, and 2 others were 22.5 and 24k !!!!
(ok, the 2 lower ones are "group A" rally cars (one in Norfolk, and the other in France)
the other 2 belong to the same guy (i think, and are all out racers)
My car is no where near being finished, and the running total has just exceeded 6k! and still has several major components to go! (granted mines a special aswell)
Be warned tho (no intention to put you off here) the vast majority of parts for the 75 are now NLA from Alfa! (yes this includes headlamps, rubber parts and the such)

ebay is a wonderful thing, so far, through the bay of beautiful things my bella has had
red rear lights and strip
Nardi gear knob
Nardi steering wheel
recaro interior
OZ avior wheels
period 80's stereo
LSD gearbox
(I've fetched the big stuff, but the guys concerned could have had shipped at my cost)
so it's never been easier to keep these cars going.

Re: What Is The Value Of A Restored 75 2.5L ?, And Advise Please.
Theres a an absolutely mint K plate 2.0 TS on ebay for £4k, it has come down and down in price. Mine only cost me £1k and is tidy, came with resprayed boot, bonnet and roof, bilsteins allround, stiffer front arb, lower rear springs and OMP brakes and a fresh MOT.
So what I'm saying is it really isn't worth it, it could cost you £5-6k maybe more....

That car as been on eBay for 12months more now and I cant see it going to at that price.... nice seats in it though!
My 75ts is insured for £3000 but it stands me at £3500 and even more by the time she's done! But I wouldn't sell her unless there was a nice 3ltr involved!
Is it the 2.5 v6 have that's got the problematic self leveling suspension on the rear? or is that just on the automatic?

if it was bought from a lady in London 6 months or so ago, its the same one, but IIRC the wheels were standard.
Looks a great car.

Re: What Is The Value Of A Restored 75 2.5L ?, And Advise Please.
Yeah, that's the one. It's a lovely car all right, but kind-of highlights some of the caveats that come with these cars. For example, both rear wheel-arches are shot, and three of the jacking points are bad.
Since I got it I've replaced the thermostat and the radiator fan-switch . Also the clutch slave cylinder which died on me. I've also added remote entry and a modern stereo (the old one picked up only one radio channel - noise). I've fitted new pads all round, and ditched the original alloys in favour of those Momos. It's very much a personal thing, but I just don't like those Alfa five spoke wheels. Too dated somehow. However, if somebody would like them, just PM
But yes, it's a lovely car, and the leather interior is _such_ a pleasant place to be.
Ed.
