We did the first trackday at Abingdon Airfield in the 75 2.0 TS which we bought for £200 a month ago. The car was excellent - such a beautifully balanced car and didn't really miss a beat all day. The only problems we noticed are that the synchro problem with second has gotten worse and there is a noticeable clonking when changing gear -it also feels like there's a lot of movement in the gearbox now.
We therefore assume that the gearbox mounts are knackered and would like to replace them - are there any guides online or tips which could help?
The other issue is that the offside inner halfshaft has split a gaitor and has left a nice greasy mess over our shiny new caliper. Any tips again? Where to source a new replacement gaitor?
Justin, the clunks probably the front of the box hitting the floor!
Not too bad a job to do -
1)Split exhaust to lower the centre secion away from the car
2)Drop front of de-dion (via the 6 bolts)
3)Slacken off mountings to gearbox - from memory two bolts on RHS, three with gearbox linkage & rose joint on LHS
4)Probably easiest to remove the de-dion cross member rather than try to replace them under the car, so I'd remove the centre bolt from the axle.
5)Put it back together
The worst bit is the LHS mounting bolts & linkage, not too bad a job assuming you've got the paitence. Top tip's to get the rear of the car as high as possible. I've got a couple of large axle stands which do the job, but I used to use standard axle stands on two paving slabs - obviously supported on the rear jacking points.......
Do-able in a morning for a first timer I'd have said........
Best of luck!
