4c weight discrepency

For those that get the complimentary ALFA magazine the Autum 2011 issue had a spread on the 4c and made a real big issue of the target weight. I quote ' The engineers have the numbers 850 written all over their wallls...refering to the weight in kilograms that the project team has set itself'
The spring 2012 ALFA magazine has a one page article headed 'Light Years Ahead- 4c concept hits 900kg Target.

So somewhere its aquired 50kg and note its still being called a concept, is it going to happen or do I ask for my deposit back

The 50kgs is due to certain safety equipment and a few 'nice to haves' being added, and seats that can be moved (unlike the carbon frame seats that are fixed and cannot be moved up or down or forward and back).

It will happen...but production will only start in about 12months time
It will be called a concept until a final production version is shown to the world... Which we are hoping will be at Paris Motorshow in September this year.

I'm very happy with this. 900kgs is a brilliant figure. It was never going to stick to 850Kg with modern crash protection standards and cockpit equipment. The fear for me was that it would rise over 1000Kg.

Your deposit means nothing I'm afraid. There is no reserve list or build date. Alfa Italia haven't authorised dealers to do this and Alfa UK also haven't... You're taking a chance.

I talk to the dealerships on a regular basis some have taken deposits some haven't.. It's around 40/60.

Thanks for your reply. Its what I suspected for some time and to be honest I am starting to doubt if the 4c will ever make production. The good news is that having spoken with the dealer, they are also starting to question re build dates etc, and informed me 'that under the circumstances they will refund my deposit should I so wish. As technically its not a deposit on a car but a build slot for one and there is no build date they essentially had little choice. I was not looking for the 4c as an investment but more of an early retirement indulgence, at this rate though I will probably be to old to get in and out of it!! So what to buy? My old S4 is still fun but could do with a restoration, however this will be more than the value of the car so I am hesitant. The 8c is tempting but its a lot of money to tie up in todays economy. Any ideas would be welcome, as long as its rear wheel drive!

I would wait for some official news.....
So far, everyone's just reacting to articles in all sorts of magazines etc., that do not correspond and don't seem to be based on any facts, but just guesswork

They can only refund your deposit whilst they are in business. In todays economic climate many dealerships (not necessarily Alfa Romeo) are closing down and going into liquidation. I would prefer my cash stuffed in a mattress at the moment rather than sticking it in someone else's bank.

Totally agree with you. Hence I arranged yesterday to go and pick a cheque up from them on Monday.
Have to say no issue apart from that even the dealer thinks the 4c is unlikely to appear.
