Alfa 4C Brochure

Received an Alfa 4C Concept Brochure in the post this morning from Alfa, basically consisted of a few pictures and high level specs that we already know.

200+ HP
TCT Gearbox
Carbon Fibre Tub
Power to weight - less than 4kg per bhp

Interesting as Alfa seem to be continuing to put alot of effort into the 4C, was anything similar produced for the MiTo GTA that was promised?

Yes think all doubt that this babe will just stay a concept can be thrown out the window by now. Alfa seems dead serious about this and they want this model to bring them back into the US.

Now we all have to wait patiently to see the "new look" that will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show...

Finally, is this the car that lives up to that absolutely magical commercial?

I really do hope so. Exciting stuff.

Less Pandion Concept cars. More production models.

Why? As in why would it be any worse than a handful of obvious competitors?

Yeah most internet rumours suggest the model that will be revealed in September at Frankfurt will be the production version or very close to it...

Cant wait to see it... (and order it)

Yeah, got one of these too. As you've said there's no new info but I guess we''ll not know more until after Frankfurt.

I don't recall as much fuss by Alfa over the MiTo GTA concept so hopefully the 4C won't disappoint. I would really like to own one but I'm not sure I'll be able to fit in so won't be jumping in the pre-order queue until I get to see one in the er.. carbon fibre.

Received my brochure yesterday as well. If the final article is anything like the concept, then it could be a miniature supercar. Hoping to get on the waiting list for this if priced <£45k for a reasonable spec.

My local dealer said they've been quoted two figures:
£42k and £52k. He said he was slightly baffled by the fact there were two. Not sure why there are, because it's only going to be coming out in one spec.

Maybe Alfa HO meant "BETWEEN 42 and 52k" (depending on spec), but he said they only gave him two figures, nothing more.

Agree, the MiTo GTA just appeared at one motor show. But that car was linked with the then CEO Luca Di Meo, when he left it disappeared off the radar screen. They are definitely very serious about the 4C and I think it will be a fantastic car. It looks fabulous in the flesh and if they keep it close to the concept they will have a winner.

I'd have one except the wife doesn't like it, so we are going to get a classic Alfa instead!

Cheers,

Nigel

Depending on cost, how much cash I can scrape together and whether I'll actually fit in the thing, (not asking for much am I? ) I'm seriously thinking about getting one. If any of my preconditions can't be met then as an alternative I plan to get a Busso engined Alfa, either a GT or 147 GTA.

I'm still very interested in the 4C. I'd use this car for track days and Alfa runs, and certainly Alfa seem to be marketing it as a track weapon.

Now my only conceptual issue is with the way the 1750 TBi currently delivers power. A track car really needs a good spread of torque spreading into the 6000+ rev range, because you need to spend all your time concentrating on your lines, not constantly shifting gear.

I know the peak torque on the current 1750Tbi is at about 1500 revs, due to the clever exhaust scavenging. Now can this engine be tweaked to spread the torque more evenly up into the 6000+ rev range, and can they move the peak torque northwards a bit? If not, I'm not sure how it's going to make a good track car, not for my driving style anyway

It may be that Alfa know that the peak torque comes in a bit too low and this is why they are touting the TCT flappy paddle jobby so heavily. But I've heard generally negative things about the smoothness of the TCT, plus the usual nightmares of how on earth do you safely parallel park a car into a typical UK parking space using a flappy paddle gear box and no clutch?

I don't want a TCT

one less person in the 4C queue, more chance of the rest of us getting one of the 1500 made...

I'm sure this is going to be a full-blown production car rather than such a limited run.

Yes, I thought I read the number 15,000 rather than 1500. 15,000 is effectively a full-blown production car. That will allow Commanderfish and I to wait out the first year of production and try fitting inside the car before ordering one.
I am in the don't-want-a-TCT camp (Sillyspeed, anyone?), but of course most of the market don't want a manual transmission, the fools.. So looks like we get a flappy paddle gearbox - neither automatic nor manual, and on a bad day, worse than both!
