Today I went to see the car. Turned the key and nothing happened. Apparently the wire to the starter solenoid gave around 8V so I gave it 12V and then it started.
Idle was steady and no smoke but the vacuum figures were low and the needle was shaky.
Once the throttle was blipped, I could notice a very slight delay in throttle response (I guess it is normal?) but it did rev well. The vacuum needle dropped to zero, went up only to the early green range in the gauge and came to the usual idling position.
Have to replace alternator as it wasn't charging the battery well. I've also noticed that the spark plugs are not the recommended type. Owner had the car only for 6 months and has no idea what the plug heat range is. He was given a plug that fits, by a seller.
Clutch pedal did not disengage the gear so there was no way we could drive it. I suspect the slave cylinder or pressure plate?
He had the radiator and water passages fully flushed and filled with coolant and no leaks were there. Power steering fluid level was also OK. Engine oil level was like 2cm above the top mark on the dip stick and the oil was not burnt.
I did a compression test after a full warm up but honestly I forgot the WOT
I got 10 bar for 3 cylinders and 9 bar for the one on left side closer to passenger (RHD car)
Interestingly, on that low compression cylinder, (could see best at the highest compression figures), the needle was going back and forth approximately 1 bar at each stroke. I kept on cranking but it was the same.
Headlights, indicators, wipers, washers are all functional. Thanks to you guys, I checked the weld seams at the front foot wells underneath and there was a little bit of rust but almost negligible.
So my friends, your expert opinions are needed
