The strips across the rear window will be in parallel.
If one breaks then the rest will still work.
Even if they're all broken, you will still measure voltage across the demister when it's switched on.
You could (very carefully, without breaking the terminal off the glass!!) unplug the wire from one terminal on any side of the rear window, then measure the resistance across the demister (from one terminal to the other). If it's finite (the opposite of infinite, i.e. if there is some connection), then at least one of the strips across your rear glass is still intact.
If you measure significantly less than the battery voltage across the rear window demister when it is switched on, then you have problems somewhere else in the circuit. For example a poor earth connection could be preventing much current flowing, so the demister can't get very hot.
