Series 2 33 1.5TI exhaust
I have just bought a 1989 33 TI, and really like the car, however upon beginning to clean under the car last night I saw that the rearmost section of the exhaust pipe has been folded [bent] out to the driver's side behind the rear tyre rather than continuing out under the rear bumper [see pic] - bending away from the circular ring it should sit in. There doesn't seem to be any obvious signs of damage,as if this has been done deliberately. The car seems to be driving fine to me, but I am wondering what the purpose of this is?
To my mind all it will be doing is restricting exhaust gases exiting, which to my pretty basic knowledge is not a good thing???
The PO said he didn't do this and I have no reason to doubt him. Any ideas why this would have been done?
