Green Machine "Misfire" Update

Hi guys - I just wanted to say thanks for the advice about my mysterious "misfire" at certain engine speed/load. You were spot-on! When I stripped my carbs at the weekend I found a strand of glass-fibre matting in one emulsion tube, a fleck of crud in another and a splinter of fibreglass resin in one of the other jets.

Serves me right for running the engine without the air cleaner after doing loads of fibreglass work!

Gave all the jets a good clean out and now the engine is got its growl back (short exhaust in a mid-engine car), and now there is no hesitation anywhere in the rev range.

Thanks again, I would have been looking for non-existant ignition faults if it hadn't been for your help!

Re: Green Machine "Misfire" Update

Good to hear you got it dialed in! I once found a lump of forma gasket stuck in the main jet from where the prevoius owner had made merry with the stuff after stripping the carb!!

Hope it keeps running well for you!

Re: Green Machine "Misfire" Update

I once had my engine suddenly start running on 3 cylinders, but it would go back to four if I floored it in a low-enough gear (and caused the carb main jets to take over?). Sure enough there was a bit of something (fuel hose?) trapped in the idle jet of one of the carb barrels.
No 'Italian tune-up' driving would fix that problem either, because the blocked part was only used when cruising!
