Cry Like A Baby Running on 3 cylinders!

Hello everyone. I have an Alfasud 1500ti engine with twin Dellertos and electronic ignition in my car. The engine is running very lumpy and backfiring on the overrun. To check that there was a good spark at each cylinder I connected a Gunson timing light to each HT lead in turn while the engine was running. 1 & 3 showed a good even flashing of the light but 4 was irratic and 2 showed no flashing at all! The distributor cap, HT leads and plugs are all new. Could this ignition problem be to do with the ignition control module on the body of the distributor or do I need a new distributor? I would be really grateful if anyone could help with this problem. Nick

Ignition module problem would affect all of the cylinders equally.
If your distributor equipped with inductive pickup there may be
problem with the air gap: it could be uneven, which causes missing
triggering signal in case of cyl#2, and unsteady triggering for cyl#4.
(e.g.: excess lateral play of the distributor shaft bearing, and/or mechanically
damaged pulse generator)
If the distributor contain points, worn contacts and/or too low lift of the contacts
combined with worn dizzy shaft bearing could also cause this.
