Alfa 33 Coolant Flushing & Replacing - Rust Found Advice Please !
Seems like I'm all trouble or at least the car is (poor thing) ! My 1992 33 needs its coolant replaced & its thermostat as it never goes past 60 Degrees. I've ordered and got all the parts however I came to open for the first time the Expansion Tank and found out that it was empty. I also was scared to death when I looked at the Cap, it was completely rusted, no rubber, no Stem, it just dangled with was left of its spring.
Obviously now I'm going to replace both the Filler Cap and Expansion Tank, I was going to buy Paraflu (Ready to Use), is it the best coolant for an Alfa ? Also I read an article how to flush the car with some Speed Flush however I am worried that if I use it it might cause more damage than there is already. The coolant left in the car is quite clear but I've notices some rust next to the Cooling Fan. I also noticed that the heater matrix is sometimes giving out some steam and am worried that if I use Speed flush (Holts) it might corrode or eat away some of the matrix. I used it once on a Seat Ibiza and blocked both the Radiator and Heater Matrix so I am not so convinced.
I dont have a hose pipe to assist me in flushing the car with plain water, in fact I was going to try to flush the old coolant, replace with clear water, run it for a while and drain again to clear out the channels. Anyone knows how I can flush it in a better way ?
Now the Heater Matrix is something else, should I place some Bardhal Stop Leak with the new coolant to keep it from steaming or should I just leave it as is ? It works quite well, warms up nicely.
Anyway thanks for your time,
