If it briefly flickers into life occasionally, there is hope!
The speedo in the 33 is electric, not cable-driven as I believe the Sprint is.
You probably have a poor connection, most likely at the back of the instrument cluster where the speed sensor plug connects. Many people end up cutting the plug off and soldering the wires directly to the circuit board.
There's also another junction in the cable from the gearbox sensor, which is in the engine bay between the ventilation unit and the brake master cylinder. The gearbox sensor cable is grey and the plug has three wires - red, white and the cable's shielding. Check that the cable has not been damaged where it passes from the engine area through the first firewall.
If you're unlucky like me, you'll have electrical troubles with the instrument cluster.
