Re: Replacing 33 Front Brake Pads
I've the got the same setup as you on my 33. I changed the front pads a few months ago, and i'm just trying to remember how I did it. Have you got the service manual pdf file? It explains how it all works in there.
As far as I can remember, the springs don't actually get removed. Once you've pulled off the retainer pins and slid out the wedges, the floating caliper can be pulled off, revealing the pads.
It seems that you're having trouble actually removing this floating caliper cover bit. Basically, ignore the springs. Grab the floating caliper bit and push it down onto the edge of the disk, whilst pushing it down to the ground. (hard to explain, sorry). If you've pushed it in and down far enough (against the springs), the top edge of it should juuust clear the top lip on the fixed part, and therefore pop out, away from the disk. The bottom edge is then easy to remove.
The actual pushing around of the floating caliper may be difficult as it is holding the backings of the brake pads. To overcome this, grab the floating caliper from the side and pull it outwards. This should hopefully push the piston back into it's bore a bit, leaving the floating caliper with a bit of 'play' in it.
Once this is done, you can wiggle the pads around until they slide out of their mounts.
Hopefully this helps a bit. If you have any more questions, I can send you the pages out of the service manual and photos of the setup if you want. Feel free to drop me an email : johnlyons87 (at) gmail.com
Best of luck
