possible brake master cylinder problem

Hi All
I have just recently noticed a kind of a slight rushing noise (like water running or something like that) coming from behind my dash when i have my foot on the brake and once brake pedal is released it goes away. I think it may be coming from the brake master cylinder, could anyone help me with any information on this and what i have to do to fix the problem?? Brakes still seem to work ok and brake fluid level is still at max.

Re: possible brake master cylinder problem

I've had this in the past with various cars and has never become anything untoward. I always thought it was the water in the heater matrix/pipes.

Try putting the heater controls in different positions on/off, hot/cold and see if you can affect it.

Re: possible brake master cylinder problem

I'm not as mechanical as others on here, but I'll have a shot...

It won't be the master, any noise from the master would be only as long as the pedal was travelling otherwise there's no movement to cause a whooshing noise. If it only happened when you put your foot down then it *could* be one of the sides of the master bypassing but unlikely.

I'd be looking at the brake booster, when you put your foot on the brake the booster is applying extra pressure using manifold vacuum. If it was leaking it would be a continuous whooshing noise while you had your foot down.

Re: possible brake master cylinder problem

Does the Scud have a servo'?

It uses a vacuum so you'll potentially get a whoosh.

Put your foot on the brake and start the engine. The pedal should drop 1 cm or 2.

If the servo's knacked, the brakes will still work but you'll have to press them harder. Are you using more brake pedal pressure to get the same stopping power?

Check all the hose connections to the servo. One may be split or loose.
