would be pleased, if anyone could share some knowledge
i did one full rebuild of 1.7, but after some extreme driving got burnt/bent(?) valves i think (belts are ok), oil pressure after damage was ok, hope crankshaft bearings are ok. so want to prepare a bit again before taking heads apart.
when damage was done i lost a lot of power and sound was very similar to this video (from 4:06) Burning a valve - YouTube
before that one head had a bit lower compression, so maybe valve sealing was not perfect, so worse valve seat cooling = overheating (also had some journey with lean lpg mixture, my fault).
1. where do you get Exhaust 26mm diameter valves? it is difficult to found them.. same for valve guides.
2. never found any full gasket kit for 1.7 16v. is there any shop having gaskets for boxer engines?
3. Hydraulic tappets. Was dissasembling a few times and some of them sometimes are extreme difficult to disassemble. they get somehow hydrolocked. after o lot of tryings i get them done with pincers/bender, but it is not optimal way i think.. if you know some better instrument for that, please share
4. camshaft cups. http://s5.postimg.org/vv40s1cvr/image.jpg
did some bad - cleaned a bit (really little) them with sandpaper (red arrows), but i think they got a bit shorter, result: camshafts are rotating a bit hard.. so tried to compensate this by sanding cups "bearings" from inside for bigger cleareance for camshaft.. (green arrows), but results are not very good.. or i did something bad aligning them, but tried a lot. how is your experience with camshaft cups?
no way to get new ones i think..
thanks a lot for sharings
