As my fuel pump failed, before putting the new one in, I decided to take out the fuel tank and clean and wash it a bit from inside as it could be case of a fuel pump failure. Brought it out in less than 40min.
I was reading a lot o internet on how to clean a fuel tank, but to many procedures and not always available in certain circumstances... So I just put some washing powder and hot water in the tank, left it for some 10 min, shake it a lot and then put inside a pipe with tap water until it was full. Repeated once more the procedure with the washing powder and hot water, shake and than rinsed again with tap water until water was coming out clean. A lot of residues and rust bits came out the tank. I thought to have look through the filler pipe and try to see its conditions and
I see the bottom end of the tank was really rusted
The rest is fine, side walls and top of the tank are really clean and white, just the bottom has rusted, i think because of its age and because of the sh**y petrol we have here.
After dried up I thought to rinse the tank with some cleaned petrol. As soon as the petrol went in the tank, it started to get wet from outside
and that was the worst thing that could happen after 1 week of rebuilding most of the car. I'm going mad.
Seams they are no longer available for the S3 fuel injected. There are only those German ones but for earlier carbed models
and they cost a fortune.
I could not find someone in here to get it welded and fixed, they are all afraid to work on gas tanks (explosion may occur) they say, so basically I'm left in the sh*t again and dont know what to do. There are no Alfa 33 here, even in scrap yard you don't find them anymore. I put some defcone
(two tubes you mix them together) after using sandpaper and drying the wet area. It is not leaking at the moment because the low level of fuel I left inside, but it will soon as the tank floor is really corroded.
I need help to sort this thing and find a solution. I don't want to leave my 33 like sitting because of a leaking tank. She is in top form after servicing her well and she runs like a dream.
I'm NOT sleeping since Friday night when I saw it
If someone from Greece could find a used one, I'm in Albania so just neighbors and could be sent by bus lines every day...
