Re: 33 spoiler
The 155 Silverstone had the spoiler and lifter kit. The lifter kit came in the boot as frankly it looked hideous and so it was left to the owner to decide whether to fit them or not. Obviously Alfa Corse took delivery of their BTCC cars and decided to fit the lifter kit.
I remember Ford got the arse about it as they were otherwise favourites in the BTCC that year but were getting spanked. They put a protest in after2 races (4 heats), saying that as the car didn't come with the aero kit fitted, it should not be homologated.
At the next round the '55s ran without the spoiler lifters and with with the chin spoiler in the rear position (again, it was down to the owner to extend the spoiler forward for the full downforce effect). They lost a race for the first time that year, but in the second race of the meeting Tarquini managed to win again, suggesting that the aero kit was not the be-all and end-all of their dominance.
After that the reg's were changed so that teams could homologate aero kit in the middle of the year and a whole host of spoiler'ed cars appeared, though only the rwd BMW gained any consistent advantage over the 155s.
